Exactly. I hate the “not guilty” comments because they trivialize a serious situation. I bet it would be a whole different ballgame if it was a male teacher and male student.
Look just ‘cause someone makes a joke doesn’t mean they don’t think the underlying crime is acceptable or trivial.
If I joke about OJ Simpson hunting for the true killer on the golf course, doesn’t mean I think killing his wife was OK. Understand?
Symptoms of the coarsening effect on the culture, when sexual deviance and promiscuity are “normalized”. Boiling frogs who now think it’s perfectly harmless to joke about perversion as though it’s a harmless topic for jocularity.
And perhaps getting a few personal jollies while doing it, otherwise they’d leave it alone.
