Fraternal Order of Police endorses Ken Cuccinelli for Attorney General
Cuccinelli receives single most important endorsement in Attorney General's race Richmond, VA. - Today, Senator Ken Cuccinelli announced his endorsement for Attorney General by the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) the Commonwealth of Virginia's largest law enforcement group. The announcement was made during a morning press conference in Richmond.
"Ken Cuccinelli's outstanding recognition of the problems faced by the Supreme Court Case Melendez Diaz, his early and outspoken push for a Special Session, and its ultimate success which will allow the prosecution of certain cases to proceed - is a testament to his skill, knowledge and support of the law enforcement community," said FOP President Tommy Edwards.
"The FOP is the single most important endorsement in the Attorney General's race," Senator Cuccinelli said, "and I am proud to have their support - and full confidence." He continued, "I would like to thank the almost nine thousand members of the FOP for their support, and also to tell them that - as their Attorney General - I will continue to work to promote public safety, improve our criminal justice system, and advocate for law enforcement and victims' rights."
Senator Cuccinelli has a long record of fighting crime and seeking to improve the criminal justice system. He has co-sponsored successful legislation which adds additional penalties for hazing of gang members. Cuccinelli helped to override Governor Kaine's vetoes of several death penalty bills, thereby ensuring that those who murder judges and trial witnesses are immediately eligible for the death penalty. He was one of the chief sponsors of successful legislation that helps keep addictive methamphetamine off of our streets.
The national FOP is the voice of our nation's law enforcement officers. The Virginia State Lodge of the FOP has 8600 members and 54 lodges within the Commonwealth of Virginia. # # #

I was at a fundraising banquet tonight for Birthmothers, a ministry to help women with unplanned pregnancies where Ken Cuccinelli game a very moving talk. He really is one of the good guys.
