Charisse is the author of the childrens books I AM BARACK OBAMA (2009); I DREAM A WORLD FOR YOU: A COVENANT FOR OUR CHILDREN (2007); and NAPPY (2006), as well as the book SONGS OF A SISTERMOM: MOTHERHOOD POEMS (2004). Charisse is the founder of Brand Nu Words, a company dedicated to publishing uniquely artistic books and related media that tell stories that too often lay untold. A graduate of Harvard Law School, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and Lincoln University, Charisse is a Senior Vice President of the Jamestown Project, an action-oriented think tank dedicated to making American democracy real. Charisse is a Silver Director for USANA Health Sciences, focusing on children’s nutrition. Her passion for instilling in children the lessons of history and their aspirations for tomorrow has become a consistent theme in her work.
Charisse has served as a speaker or presenter for numerous national and regional organizations and schools. She has appeared on ABC News Now, Radio One, and American Urban Radio Networks.
