There is nothing to see here. Government’s armed enforcers would never harm innocent bystanders. Nobody who works for the government must ever be doubted. Troublemakers got what they deserved.
What if the police did nothing and the protestors (who were there to do damage to private property) ‘accidentally’ set a dorm on fire? And hundreds of innocent kids were harmed? Parents would be screaming for accountability from the police. The anarchist protestors knew exactly what they were doing protesting near the freshman dorms.
The police are not Star Wars Storm Troopers they are men and women who voluntarily do a job that puts them in harms way every day. They have to dress in protective gear or risk bodily injury from professional agitating protestors who were there to cause trouble and grab media attention.
Students were told to stay away from the situation and they didn’t. Understandable, they are young. Police are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.
