Agree with you. IF he was just incompetent, once in a while something he did might actually be good for the country.

I think he's waiting for a large number of casualties in one day, whereupon he will withdraw.

Any criticism will be derided as partisan, and he will point to Reagan pulling out of Lebanon. (I consider Reagan's withdrawal understandable, but in hindsight the biggest mistake of his presidency.)
