Japanese kids spend even less time than ours in school, yet do better anyway.

Obama may want to place the blame somewhere else.

From the AP: "Kids in the U.S. spend more hours in school (1,146 instructional hours per year) than do kids in the Asian countries that persistently outscore the U.S. on math and science tests — Singapore (903), Taiwan (1,050), Japan (1,005) and Hong Kong (1,013). That is despite the fact that Taiwan, Japan and Hong Kong have longer school years (190 to 201 days) than does the U.S. (180 days)."

“Summer vacation is the only respite that students get from the Brainwashing they get in public schools these days, when they can actually learn how the real world works.”

Summer is the only respite teachers get from putting up with brats, crappy parents and arrogant administrators. Not to mention, taking classes to keep up with the licensing requirements, maybe getting a vacation between the end of summer school and the beginning of the new school year etc.

Kids spend more time and do more homework in US schools than ever. Yet a BA today is the equivalent of a HS diploma in 1948. That’s because schools aren’t for learning. Never have been. They’re warehouses for state indoctrination.

Private schools aren’t much better, just different aims.

Actually, many private schools are better - much! In our city, there are many private schools because the public ones are abysmal. Everyone I know either sends their children to a private school or they homeschool. Both of those are far better options than most public schools - but that also depends on the area because some cities have great public schools that are still strong academically. Around here, it’s a no contest with a couple of exceptional public schools.

Wach out for your job! We have a whole generation of "teacher aides" who will be more than willing to step up to the plate and work all summer while the pros"regroup."

Its all a part of "for the children." and "it takes a village" expansion of the state into virtually every aspect of family life. Now teachers will take the hit.And we will turn up the wick on brainwashing. GREAT STUFF!!!

How could you possibly want to resists that evolution?

“How could you possibly want to resists that evolution?”

Until the respective states change their requirements, the “aides” won’t teach. They don’t teach now.

And the federal government may TRY to ram this into the states but they may find it tougher than they think.
