All that 10th Amendment stuff is going to start kicking in if this keeps up. Schools don't belong to the Federal Gov. The way the “feds” have “guided” schools, I'm for LESS SCHOOLS as in maybe none. If we give Obama 12 months to indoctrinate the kids we'll really be in trouble.

The Presidency is out of control. The primary role of the President is to serve of commander and chief and to ensure the safety of the US against all enemies, foreign and domestic. It’s not the President’s role to define the school year.

You’re assuming that logic/thinking will be taught...

I wouldn’t mind longer hours and shorter vacation time for students if it meant they really learned something besides ‘political crap’ (PC), like social justice and community service!

My kid was home taught and completed his school work during daytime. We also did not take long vacations - he worked through the summer months but had plenty of time to play outside with his friends.

So it isn’t the longer hours or school year that bother me - it is what exactly do they intend to teach during those hours and days?

“Translation: More indoctrination time needed.”

Actually, it’s more likely a payoff to the teacher’s union. They would, of course, need more money and more teachers since they are working more.

Sounds like he wants more time for the children to worship their dear leader. So now Bozo the Clown wants to take away the kids vacations. What next, their Nintendo Wii’s. This is ridiculous. Obama is just another Fidel Castro

Not his role to “define the school year.” Excellent point. This hardly started with Clinton but we can blame him for placing more emphasis on what the federal government does to schools when he came out with that proposal for all kids to wear school uniforms. I thought many parents would resent that intrusion but apparently not. Too many soft headed dolts thought this meant Clinton and the Democrats really cared about their kids. That was yet another sign the country was starting to go down the drain, IMO.

“Sounds like he wants more time for the children to worship their dear leader.”

He’d better be careful— cut vacations too much and he’ll lose the mock 2012 election among third-graders!

Yeah, “I want my kids to see less of their parents and more of bureaucrats!”

This kind of statist monster isn't a partisan thing. Remember Bush I was “The Education (establishment) President” and Reagan betrayed us by bringing in that creep Bennett after promising to abolish the DoE when there was a realistic chance to do it. Face it, our rulers want your children.

The ONLY optimistic trend i see in this once-free country is that home-schooling has progressed so much in just a generation. Maybe there's hope.
