When the Supreme Court struck down Washington, D.C.s city-wide gun ban as unconstitutional in the D.C. v. Heller decision of June 2008, it seemed axiomatic that similar gun bans around the country would crumble under the weight of unconstitutionality as well. However, more than a year after the Heller decision, the D.C. city council is making it as difficult as possible to get a gun permit in the nations capital, Chicagos Mayor Daley is fighting to keep his citys total handgun ban in place, and other mayors, like Seattles Greg Nickels, threaten to institute gun bans every time a newsworthy crime is committed.
Its high time to examine the tactics of these gun-banning politicians, as well as others throughout the land, and demand, once and for all, that they give us back our bullets.
While the Heller decision upheld the Founding Fathers view that the Second Amendment protects an individuals right to keep and bear arms, it also overturned the D.C. gun ban on grounds that such a ban denied the right of self-defense in the home. Nevertheless, D.C.s city council has made the requirements for getting a handgun permit so arduous and expensive that only 515 residents have gotten one since the ban was reversed last year. In other words, a de facto gun ban continues....

You know — conservatives and conservative values have been mocked, scorned, slammed and ridiculed for years and years; this summer’s tea parties were exhibit A that we’ve been sick of it and are now REALLY sick of it. Something’s got to give; most people can feel it; what exactly it will be is unknown, but something’s got to give.
I would love to see these mayors release the gun permit number of each perp convicted of violent crimes in their cities. Or, if they don't have one--to SAY so. That will be very instructive indeed to the public.
Something to Ponder
An interesting letter in the Australian Shooter Magazine this week, which I quote:
“If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theater of operations during the past 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers. “
A very sad thing for U.S. soldiers and troops, however; the firearm death rate in Washington, DC is 80.6 per 100,000 for the same period. That means you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in the US capital - - which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the US - - than you are in Iraq.
Conclusion: The U.S. should pull out of Washington
Molon labe.
“In Chicago, Daley dug in his heals in response to the Heller decision as well, refusing to budge on that citys handgun ban. Although the National Rifle Association (NRA) filed a suit in federal court to have the ban overturned, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the Chicago ban by claiming the Supreme Court did not specifically incorporate the Heller decision did not explicitly say the Heller verdict applies to bans other than the D.C. gun ban.”
..... It’s ironic to see a leftist political position saved through a “strict constructionist” argument. Can anyone in the know give some political background on the 7th CCA. Is this a legimate objectie judiciary panel or is it packed with lefty ideologues?
Unless there’s some significant information missing from your quoted letter, your math there is a bit off:
2112 deaths/160,000 troops isn’t 60/100,000.
2112/22 months = 96
100000/160000= .625
.625 x 96 = 60
I emailed the stae of PA to get the number of crimes committed by people who have CCW permits (LTCF here). Guess what? They don’t collect such data.
If gunowners were such a problem, this data would in fact be collected.
I see; the part that I was missing was the time scale. It’s 60/100,000 per month.
We must all accept the fact that the simple math above is far beyond the Obamaloon.
Me too. After all, only honest law-abiding (so far) citizens subjects possess gun permits, exactly as provided for by the Constitution.

The leftist aka progressive gun haters will stop at nothing to ban the right to bear arms. Now that gun bans have been dealt a blow the leftist aka progressive gun haters will go after the other things needed for a gun.
One would think that the right to keep and bear arms would pertain to the ammo for them arms.
