Veteran Washington Post reporter Daryl Fears, part of a two-person writer team, unmistakably wrote that filmmaker John O'Keefe had said he targeted ACORN, the advocacy group, for his candid-camera expose, because it registered voters to defeat Republicans.
O'Keefe said no such thing. It was a non-quote made out of whole cloth by reporter Fears, and published as fact on Sept. 17. Making the falsehood exponentially worse, the Post story then was retailed worldwide by the Associated Press.

“Of course, they also printed this quote:
I, James O’Keefe, am a soldier for Satan. I molest children, kill them, and bathe in their blood. I would love to rip open the chest of old people and feed on their still-beating hearts. All Republicans are the Sons of Satan. We wish to torture people slowly before we gas them in the ovens. Hitler is my idol. Hail Satan! Hail Satan!! Hail Satan!!!!”
....... and that quote, also made up, they WILL not retract.”
Thank you for that, can alway use a belly laugh!
Laz, man...
Some day I hope to buy you a beer.
ROFL
Exactly accurate. More liberal activism via news rags.
Indeed! A CASE!
Do you kiss on a first date?
The claim in the Post article was that he targeted ACORN because they registerd minorities. Regardless of whether or not the tape was fake, the assertion is clearly an attempt to besmirch Mr. O'Keefe's character and represention. Once you have characterized an opponent as a racists, it's easy to dismiss him.
The smeer also has the effect of discouraging others from attacking ACORN, lest they be accused of racism.
We could probably accurately describe any given reporter for the fringe media as a Democrat party activist and operative.
I don’t think you want to know what Laz does on a first date.
i’m thinking it will take way more than diet sprite for you to want to kiss me, Laz...
If not, we have some serious counselling classes for you to choose from...
“Once you have characterized an opponent as a racists, it’s easy to dismiss him.”
It’s easier, granted. But whereas the public would be more than willing to believe he’s a GOP operative, I assume, it’s another few steps to jump to the conclusion that he’s racist. I don’t think they’ll make it across the gap.
Anyway, this is one of those Joe the Plumber things. The tape speaks for itself, just like Obama’s “spread the wealth” comment spoke for itself. It wouldn’t have mattered if Satan himself posed as a pimp in front of ACORN employees or posed the question in front of Obama. It would matter to some people, of course, but not enough to take away the issue.
"Bush's audience of thousands in West Allis, Wis., booed. Bush did nothing to stop them."
Charactering him as a racist would give the LSM an excuse to ignore him and the story.
What else is new?
Did you expect the truth or something in the paper?
“Charactering him as a racist would give the LSM an excuse to ignore him and the story.”
Actually, it would make them go into overdrive on the story. As much as “if it bleeds, it leads” is true, “if it is racist and Republican, it leads” is as well.
Nevertheless, they have every reason they ever needed already. They sat on it until it was shameful not to do so, even then they played it off like it wasn’t a real story, when they weren’t playing the “poor, little, old ACORN got entrapted” angle.
It would make it a partisan attack, therefore “swiftboating” and obviously false.
The left has their own facts.
If a reporter's a race baiter to the point he's willing to lie to make a point, he should be fired. That kind of crap - making up quotes - is stuff people get fired for at better newspapers.
