City government sucks!!!!
Inspector comes by a couple of hours ago and tells us we have to remove 3 large cardboard cigarette signs from our store front or be written up in violation of city ordinances. Apparently, inspectors have been told to throw down the gauntlet and not to be selective in enforcment anymore.
Of course I could try to appeal in front of the city, but how much support would I expect in a county that pays 36.5% of its residents to sit on their asses and not work? It would seem an obvious way to play fair, but no, they choose to pick on us who are paying taxes keeping the county afloat...
Not that the guy wasn’t nice, he’s been inspecting us for years. He said he has to put his foot down and follow the rules. There’s 2 stores in particular who drew the worst ire from him. They won’t take their signs down so they got written up and will fight in court. A 3rd store, which I will drive by later is at the center of the enhanced enforcment. We’ll see if they listened too....

Those are the ones I like to remind that Tobacco is “STILL LEGAL”.. and if the CITY believes that tobacco is so DANGEROUS.. Ban the sale of it in the CITY and FOREGO ALL TOBACCO TAXES. If you can remind them HOW much just YOUR store pays to city in those taxes, more the better.
GOTTA BE QUICK tho, the PANIC LOOK OF Lost REvenue ONLY lasts a Second, but it’s still worth it.

The signage was on our lighted signpole at the front of our lot near the street, not inside the store looking out. Only 1 of the 3 signs was like that.
As for getting strict about it now, all I told him was as long as you’re not playing favorites, I guess I’ve got nothing to say. And since I’ll probably sell less cigs now cause of it, I guess they’ll be getting less in taxes, especially sales taxes which this state loves to give to those who get paid not to work.
While I was taking the signs down I pointed in the direction of the welfare office, down the street and told him that’s where you people need to get involved. He didn’t like that much.....
