hehehe, anyone who couldnt see the kickback corruption and personal pocket lining embedded in everything this evil cs does is gonna be in for some serious shock in the months to come...

home much taxpayer money was blown in the double fustercluck sacrificial mission trips to europe to ass kiss for these games, just to kick it back to daley inc....

prolly wouldve been cheaper for US if theyda just wrote a friggin check to themselves and eliminated the carbon footprint...

unfortunately, Im not joking...

Folks like the Olympics. They think getting them is a big feather in their local community’s cap. I lost that view of the Olympics decades ago.

Today the people who participate are more or less professionals. If they aren’t getting outright paid to train or participate in that sport for a living, they are being housed and given a free ride by the government.

At some point they decided more women would watch if they did up close and personal interviews and profiles of the Olympic participants. For me, that was a ‘gag me with a pitchfork moment’.

“This is Axilrod Lipshank from Ostentatious, New Mexico. Axe had to overcome a cowlick and a father who once said, ‘Do your homework now!’, to become an Olympic champion.” Ah, no thanks...

Then the OIC went to China. This helped legitimize a government that was responsible for killing more of it’s own people than any other nation in history.

The Olympics are dead to me.

It’s just a big event that helps to sell ideology and products, while boring you to tears.

Sure, if you put your brain on neutral and don’t think about what is really going on, it’s just wonderful.

Well, I’m not 13. No sale...

My vision of this ‘flight wing to Europe’ was that this is the closest Obama will come to a military operation.

He flew in to the theme song of Apocolypse Now, and will fly out to a tune from the movie Bambi.

This guy has all the presence of the Alfalfa kid in The Little Rascals.

“Keep your Chicago. Enjoy your failure of a President.”

Now now, don’t lie. I will never enjoy this President and you just made that up. You needn’t stoop to falsehoods. Destroys your credibility. But I will keep my Chicago. You should visit there one day. It’s a beautiful city.

Well, you sound a little bitter. Maybe one has to be younger to still enjoy it. Kind of like Santa Claus. Oh well, I still enjoy the competition, the pageantry, and yes, those personal interviews. I like the beauty of sport. But each to their own.

I am so surprised that there are so many sourpusses on FR regarding the Olympics. It’s not at all what I expected of conservatives and alleged patriots. Where’s the country pride in achievement? Boy, everyone sure is in a down mood. But don’t blame the Olympics.

Conservatives used to love and feel patriotic about the games and how proud we used to be if our country won the bid for the Olympics. Somethings gone off track now, which is why I am sick about the mixing of politics and the games. Jimmy Carter used the games for his political aims, it didn’t work, and it ruined the Olympics for a bunch of young athletes who had worked so hard to participate in the games, and then Jimmy calls them off. The whole purpose of the games is destroyed when politics rears its ugly head.

Perhaps I am bitter. As a youth one of my fondest dreams would have been to participate in the Olympics. I once had to refuse a bowling trophy I won on my mother’s team, because I would have lost my amature standing if I had accepted it.

I have watched what has happened to the Olympics. Now even professional basketball players can purchase presidential suite lodging outside the Olympic village, so they can kick the snot out of teams from third world countries. Ugly American? You betcha!

The OIC standards are just reprehensible to the max. China’s current government is responsible for the deaths of 50 million of it’s own people. That’s not even counting the untold millions of children slaughtered because they were the wrong sex. It’s a nation that is preparing to dominate the world as a despotic rogue nation. The OIC couldn’t see any problem at all, giving the Olympics to China. Tell me that doesn’t bother you.

Santa Claus never killed 50 million people, and forced families to kill their children if they were lucky enough to be born male. He never drove his 20 ton sled over peaceful demonstators in Tieniman (sp?) Square, or gunned thousands of them down.

As for the pageantry, it can’t erase my knowledge of what the OIC has done. It’s a morally bankrupt organization. As for the beauty of the sport, where’s the beauty in professionals playing against other professionals? The Olympic spirit was the idea that amatures would come together and compete on a non-professional basis. These people were to be amatures. The games were to be kept pure, free from professional’s involvement.

You have asked what the downer is all about, as it relates to the Olympics. I have told you. It will either make sense to you or it won’t. For many of us, it does, and we explain it when the issue comes up.

As for national pride, I have it. That’s why I’d rather our nation not have any part whatsoever in a corrupt sporting venture. Taking our kids to China was unforgivable. It was akin to knowing what Hitler was, and going to those events anyway. What, he would kill six million jews, that many other infirmed, homosexuals, gypsies... and be responsible for the deaths of tens of millions more? Why let’s go play in these marvelous games!!! Good grief!

When Carter cancelled our participation, it was after Russia invaded Afghanistan. Russia was hosting the games, and Carter sent them a message. Frankly, it’s the one thing Carter did that made sense. You don’t conduct business as usual, as a nation like the U.S.S.R. expands it’s iron curtain.

It is sad that the Olympians were inconvenienced, but there are inconveniences in life. The Afghan people could tell them about it.

“It will either make sense to you or it won’t...”

D-One, I think it probably won’t, and your eloquence is probably fallling on deaf ears there on fl47. But for the benefit of the rest of us out here, thank you. Well-spoken, succinct, and excellently put.

“...Frankly, it’s the one thing Carter did that made sense...sending a message to the Soviets...”

Yeah, and Carter also sent another message to the Soviets during the 1980 election - believe it was through Ted Kennedy or some other vassal. “Use your influence and contacts to help the Dems win the election.”

Thought that was called treason...silly me. Once again, the Treason Party rears its head.

As for being called bitter...Nope. Not at all, lady.

The Good Guys won bigtime today.

This Olympic turn-down was “The Bitch Slap Heard ‘Round The World”

MMMMM-MMMMM-MMMMM

Thanks NFHale, but I want FlagLady47 to know that I’m not voicing this just to her. I don’t want this to be something between her and I, because I’m sure we agree on a lot of issues.

She set up the situation, and I’m just answering how I see it. I’m not upset with her.

You know, that’s a good point, and generally I try not to bear grudges either.

But her initial spastic response to my polite comments - “drama queen”, etc., were uncalled for. Which, of course, me being me, I had to respond...

Will let bygones be bygones as well.

“It is sad that the Olympians were inconvenienced, but there are inconveniences in life. The Afghan people could tell them about it.”

Even though there is a kernal of truth in what you say, not all of the sports played are stacked with professionals. And where other countries have taken unfair advantage by subsidizing their athletes for many years, then we need to send our pros to level the playing field so to speak. Ok, so then they will be competing with some skills balance. It’s an imperfect world. But we manage to do quite well every time we compete with the teams we field.

Other more third world countries don’t have the abilities to field as highly skilled athletes as we do. That could be said to be unfair also. It will never be 100 percent equal. However, I admire any team that tries their hardest, and many times just inherent great natural ability wins out. The athletes love to go to the Olympics to compete, so they are obviously getting something out of it, and feel it’s fair enough for them to participate.

The alternative would be not to have the Olympics, a tradition many years old, since antiquity, if you want to consider its conceptual roots. So, I side with the athletes who want the Olympics to exist, the nations of the world who want it, and because a few of those countries aren’t to our liking with their systems of gov’t, so be it. They’ve been in the games right along, so why now would they be kicked out, and who would do that. Our country can’t make the choices of countries to participate unilaterally. You demand too much to be your way or the highway.

So, I guess the bottom line is you will not watch the Olympics and will continue to think they are a waste of time, and I will do just the opposite. I like my half glass full approach to your half empty approach. Each to their own, but I want to enjoy the Olympics like so many others do, and I won’t be brought down by a sense of sour grapes that I don’t have. But you are indeed entitled to your own opinion. Depressing viewpoint though.
