Bible verses banned from Ga. school football field

The Warriors of Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High took the field on Friday night without any Bible verses written on the cheerleaders' banner. Instead, the football team ran through a banner that read "This is Big Red Country" before each bent on a knee to pray on the field of Tommy Cash Stadium.

The spirited display comes after the school district banned the banners last week over concerns they were unconstitutional and could provoke a lawsuit, angering many in the deeply religious north Georgia town of Fort Oglethorpe.

"I'm just kind of unnerved about it," said 18-year-old Cassandra Cooksey, a recent graduate who often prayed with her fellow marching band members before football games. "It seems like the majority of people in our community want this and they don't have a problem with it, so I think they should be allowed to have the signs if they want to."

The move has galvanized the community. Hundreds of people attended a rally this week supporting the signs, which included messages such as: "Commit to the Lord, whatever you do, and your plans will succeed." Many students attended class Friday wearing shirts with Bible verses and painted their cars with messages that read: "Warriors for Christ."

During the game, several other messages were visible in the packed stadium. Some people stood with signs that read "You Can't Silence Us" and some young men had Bible verses painted on their chests.

"When you get a whole bunch of teenagers mad, this is what happens. We stand up for what believe in," 16-year-old Shelby Rouse said over the roar of a pre-game pep rally.

They needed to quote the Koran, that would be allowed.

Tell an American they “can’t” do something and see what you get.

Don’t worry, Georgians. Ears sez that we’re a Muslim Country now, so slap on those blankets known as burkas and start memorizing the Koran.

>> They needed to quote the Koran, that would be allowed. <<

Though the Koran does have a number of gruesome sayings that are more relevant to football that anything Jesus ever said.

Kill the infidel that comprise the other team comes to mind....

Isn't it a violation of the First Amendment to prohibit Americans from the free exercise of religion?

That would be like telling people there is no freedom of speech in schools, government buildings or on public property.

Liberalism is a mental disorder.

We can thank the Supreme Court of the United States for this. In 1947 the infamous "wall of separation" nonsense in Everson v. Board of Education entered our judicial lexicon. No one can convince me that our Founders intended to ban religious expression at school athletic events.

“Tell an American they “can’t” do something and see what you get.”

And that’s why we’re hated/envied around the world. American’s, in general, don’t need permission from a paternal government in order to know what to do. Thankfully, there are still some young people who have the spirit of freedom in them. It gives me hope.

Further down in the article:
“ Catoosa County schools Superintendent Denia Reese banned the practice after a parent complained.”

A parent...’A’, as in one, singular, lone-out of how many parents in the school district?
I’m glad they are, in their own “special” way, telling that ONE PARENT to please sit down and STHU!!

There was a good email that went around about a Superintendent or Principal of a highschool who was giving a speech before a graduation crowd or football game, can't recall now.

Anyway, he talked about how the court now prohibited him from saying any prayers or blessings, that he disagreed with it but the law is the law.......and then he had a long pause and he said, “But that wouldn't stop any of you, if you chose to do so”. The whole crowd and students began to stand up and pray. Don't remember if it was just silent prayer but it spoke how they all felt.

It is for this reason that I carry a copy of the Constitution (and the Declaration of Independence, available in one slim pamphlet from the Heretage Council) in my purse at all times. Anyone mentions “Separation of Church and State, and I hand them the volume and DEFY them to find it for me!

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd - Australia
Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation’s mosques.
Quote: ‘IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians’ .

‘This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom’. ‘We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!’

‘Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.’

‘We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.’

‘This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom,

‘THE RIGHT TO LEAVE’.’

‘If you aren’t happy here then LEAVE. We didn’t force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.’
Maybe if we circulate this , American citizens will find the backbone to start speaking and voicing the same truths.

If you agree, please SEND THIS ON.

It's about time people take care of this.

Georgia would be a good place to start.
