This is a letter in response to a letter I sent to Jimmy Carter in 1980 during the hostage crisis. I found it in a box while going thought personal papers.
Dear Ms________:
Thank you for your communication to President Carter concerning Iran and Afghanistan.
As the President said in his recent State of the Union message to Congress, the holding of 50 American citizens in Iran and the movement of massive Soviet troops into Afgahanistan present a serious challenge to the United States and all nations of the world. I am enclosing a test of that address as well as other relevant material which describe in some detail the steps the Administration has taken to meet the threats to our national security and to world peace.
Sincerely
Willian D. Blair Jr. Acting Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs
Substitute a few words, slap a different date and signature on it and it could be send to a now 18 year old high school senior.
If that effin moron Carter really wanted to have done something to enhance America’s national security and world peace, he wouldn’t have undermined and destabilized the Shah of Iran, he wouldn’t have given away the damn Panama Canal, he wouldn’t have canceled the B-1 bomber (prominently used in both the Afghanistan and Iraq campaigns), and he wouldn’t have bent over to be Brezhnev’s butt boy.
I was in Basic Training in January 1981, when the hostages were released. It was announced at church on Sunday, days after it happened. The whole place just erupted in cheers. We were so grateful and relieved for the hostages, for our new President and for Carter being GONE!!!
If Iran is the legacy of Carter, what lingering hell
will be Obama’s?
The radioactive smoking remains of 6 or 8 US cities? An EMP attack that puts our civilization back to about 1820? Civil War? All the above?
Cheers!
Thanks for sharing your experience. I was in Sonar Technician “A” school in San Diego when their release was announced. We went over to the “Lizard Lounge” and pounded pitchers of beer in celebration. It was a great day, made possible by President Reagan’s testicular fortitude. May he rest in peace. Thanks to a real American, both you and him.
This administration is going to make Jimmy Carter look like Thomas Jefferson!
Considering Iran, I'm thinking something radioactive.
