GOP celebrates U.S. defeat
CNN ^ | Roland Martin

Posted on 10/03/2009 1:25:37 PM PDT by Chet 99

(CNN) -- Whenever President Obama has traveled overseas and offered pointed and direct assessments of the United States, some of them critical, Republicans have ripped him for criticizing America, saying a president should always defend the United States.

So I want to hear the explanation by these so-called patriots of their giddy behavior over the United States losing the 2016 Olympic Games.

Yes, the United States. The bid that was rejected Friday by the International Olympic Committee was not a Chicago, Illinois, bid. It was the official bid submitted by the United States Olympic Committee and was representative of the nation. Tokyo's bid was that of Japan; Madrid's was that of Spain; and Rio de Janeiro's was that of Brazil.

Republicans want to spin the decision as a massive loss by President Obama and the Democrats who have always controlled Chicago politics.

"Hahahahaha," wrote Erick Erickson on the conservative "RedState" blog, "I thought the world would love us more now that Bush was gone."

Read my lips...It’s a friggin’ sporting event.

It’s not the same universe as ripping Republican presidents during wartime for their handling of the war.

And, frankly, Obama could have/should have just stayed out of it but noooo. Just like Clinton, everything has to be about “them”.

I couldn't help laughing every time Rush lampooned the lefty chant..."Barack HUSSEIN Obama....'ummmm, 'ummmm, 'ummmmm!"

He nailed it. These cretins are getting what they deserve. It is okay when they run down America...but when we run down the perpetrators who are running down America...suddenly "patriotism" matters...

The taxpayers pick up the tab for the Olympics. Chicago’s cronies get the spoils. The left are such useful idiots.

Characterizations can be a very useful propaganda tool.

Re: "so-called patriots of their giddy behavior"

I don't recall anyone being giddy regarding the posture of supplication of the President and his lying wife, or the amount of American taxpayer money that was spent on the trip.

Idiot. The United States didn't "lose."

Hussein lost. It was about him, not the United States. He made it about him. We are giddy because he lost!

I will enthusiastically support our athletes in the games regardless the host city.

I was in Atlanta during the 96 Olympics. Many local and state politicians, and “community organizers” got rich off what was a very poor planned and executed event.

It was a win-win.
The Oprah-Obama-Obama three headed monster got embarrassed, and Chicago/US did not get the Olympics. The Olympics is just an international entertainment spectacle that ends up costing the tax-payers for years. The only people that profit are hotels, prostitutes, and some sleazy politicians and their toadies that make sure they get cuts from the development projects...

I'm no fan of the IOC - but they did us a favor this go around.

The bid that was rejected Friday by the International Olympic Committee was not a Chicago, Illinois, bid

Oh, yes it was a Chicago bid! Who else do you think would benefit besides Chicago connected politicians?

The bidding process alone cost Chicago about $100 million

Mayor Richard Daley likes to say his dream of bringing the Olympics to Chicago

the price tag for the operating budget is an approximately $3.8 billion

Chicago’s bid included a guarantee of $500 million in taxpayer funds to cover any operating deficit for the Games

there is virtually no chance the city will reap the rewards backers of the Games promise, said University of Chicago Prof. Allan Sanderson, who specializes in sports economics

“The economic impact study the 2016 group commissioned and bragged about—$22 billion in benefits—is simply nonsense and laughable,” said Sanderson.

“How can they claim it will all be private money when the city is already using the people’s credit to borrow funds to knock down a hospital—a hospital with the only AIDS clinic for miles—that will become 85 to 90 percent unaffordable condos after a two-week stint as athlete housing, eight years from now?” Canon asked.

“If the city has $500 million of the people’s money to guarantee luxury condos and equestrian parks, then they have $500 million to invest in our neighborhoods—hospitals, buses, trains, schools, and parks,” Canon said. “Not only can we create jobs by investing in our neighborhoods, we can bring Chicago closer to what the people consider a ‘world-class city,’ one with safe streets, good public schools, and swift public transit.”

You should be shouted down for not backing your own country.

So that applies to the d*mn Olympics, but not for something really important....like the WAR IN IRAQ.

What a hypocritical piece of trash. I hate Democrats.

Exactly! IOC saved the US taxpayers a huge amount of money IMHO. No way that Chicago could have not gone in the hole with all their corruption.

Win for Rio = Win for US Taxpayers

Oh PLEASE!! So NOW you are suddenly great PATRIOTS, CNN??!! You have spent decades trashing the US, saying the Iraq war was lost, accusing US troops of Murder, blasting free enterprise and individual liberty and now, in the blink of an eye, you are TRUE BLUE and moaning over the US having lost the Olympics?? Any mention of the grandiose plans for graft that went down the drain? Any mention that theft, corruption and the spreading around of money by Mayor Daley were the ONLY reasons Hussein got involved in the first place? Any mention that Valerie Jarrett was going to sell her falling down, slum property for a fortune to the Olympic committee? Of COURSE not! Just sad for the US, right CNN!
