Therein lies the rub...he is so isolated - except for hand-picked groups - he doesn't face the American people, and he's well insulated and protected.
Insofar as getting "tough" with Fox News...he's afraid to go on there, so he can talk tough - and talk is about all the ONE is good at, with a teleprompter - but he never has to face the feedback.
It's what paper bullies do.
I don't think is ego will even let him watch most of the events like the tea partys and town halls, he probably gets a "filtered" version of the events from his czars.
Like a child, zero thinks he can cover his eyes and as long as he doesn't see the problem, it doesn't exist.
The spotlight of truth is his Achilles Heel...and it will be his undoing.
