President Obama plays the fool on world stage
The Morning Journal (Lorain OH) ^ | October 4, 2009 | Tom Skoch

PRESIDENT Obama has been stumbling all over the world stage this past week. The spectacle has been aggravating and painful.

The former world's biggest celebrity is proving himself to be the world's biggest joke to our allies and enemies alike. Sadly, the joke is on us, the nation that elected him despite plenty of alarm signals.

If Obama's star has fallen this far so fast, how much worse can his presidency get for this nation over the next three years? And how much more dangerous?

If only some of his recent humiliations can pop the bubble of narcissism in which he floats through life.

Obama and his wife made a highly publicized trip to Copenhagen to personally lobby for Chicago to be chosen as the site of the 2016 Olympics. But even before the Obamas could get all the way back home. Olympic organizers threw Chicago's bid in the trash; then they declared Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the winner.

Obama's reaction was characteristic: He ignored reality and responded by proclaiming Chicago's bid was best no matter what. He also gave out "an A for effort" to Chicago, adding that he "could not be prouder" and, "You can play a great game and still not win."

Sorry, but for the president of the United States on the world playing field there's no substitute for winning. Obama only made a fool of himself and a laughingstock of the U.S. in the eyes of the world.

But it could be worse, and it has been:

* There was Obama's recent brain cramped declaration that he was "not interested in victory" in Afghanistan. There's a real morale booster, for the Taliban.

* We all learned in recent days that Commander in Chief Obama has more often spent time laughing with Leno and Letterman on TV than he has spent in conversation with his commanding general of our troops in Afghanistan.

* Worst, it took a newspaper in Paris to reveal that Obama infuriated allies France and Great Britain by refusing to use his speech time at the United Nations last week to confront Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with the discovery that Iran is operating an additional secret plant for purifying uranium that could be used for bomb-making. A Wall Street Journal account noted that the Obama White House declined to drop the bombshell revelation at the U.N. because "it didn't want to 'spoil the image of success'" for Obama as he gushed about his vision of a world safe from nuclear weapons.

Instead of exposing Iran's nuclear treachery, Obama gave Ahmadinejad a free pass to spew on the U.N. stage. Then, the next day, at the G-20 Summit in Pittsburgh, Obama finally allowed as how Iran has been lying and cheating on its nuclear program.

Obama's failure to lead in this instance is breathtaking for its jealous vanity.

He would rather be hailed for one day over his no-nukes fiction world than to use his day to direct a devastating blow of truth against a genuine nuclear threat to his own nation and our allies.

That is the action of a blind fool, not a president of the United States.

These are the actions of someone who intentionally wants to destroy the U.S.
