ban bakes sales to stem bad eating habits....hey! I hear that if you light your head on fire it prevents acne!!
I wonder how long before this becomes a state mandate...
Maybe they can hold bake sales OFF CAMPUS and then the schools have nothing to say about it... I forget, this is the NANNY state - they will figure away to oppress the people!
Enter in the nanny state...
Visited my granddaughters class. There was 1 chunky kid (out of 25 kids) and one big fat teacher!!
Have “they” ever made the connection that perhaps the longer school day and the cessation of recess may perhaps have something to do with the sedentary lifestyle and the increase of obesity? Lots and lots of homework equals a whole heck of a lot of time indoors. I haven’t noticed that an increase in work load results in greater intelligence in the students either.
Get the kids outdoors and moving around. That will do more for the obesity problem.
The state and federal agencies will gladly move in to make up the cash shortfall. Just another way to remove local control of the schools.
While many people responding have pointed out that schools are allocating less time for recess, I wonder if another reason for the obesity “epidemic” is that kids are not allowed to have sweet treats; everything they’re allowed to eat has to be “healthy” (i.e. boring). As a result, they don’t learn how to eat in moderation; when they have a chance to eat sweets or other “unhealthy” food, they tend to gorge.
Moderation is the key. Telling them they can’t have certain (really tasty) food EVER does not teach them moderation.
Whatever you do, don’t send your kid to school with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich- they can KILL!
I don’t remember any kids dropping dead in the lunchroom when I was in grade school (the early 50’s)...
