My husband is an orchid grower. I spend a few minutes being worried about it, maybe every other month.

Once in a while, though, the fit hits the ... and the SWAT teams show up. (Not here, yet.)

You should see the recent National Geographic article on ‘sexy’ deceptive orchids. Or your husband should. There are orchids out there that mimic female bees, others that mimic rotting flesh, some that just plant a big pollen sac on ya and send ya on yer way. Sneaky things, orchids.

I have Lady Slippers in my swampy area. Shhh don't tell any enviormentalist, they would throw me off my property...Some years there are hundreds, other years not so many...Northern Orchid...

I accidentally transplanted one into my back yard, when I dug up a fern for garden....I bought 2 ferns and they both died......Duh, I have a fern bog and they transplant and grown like crazy...Now I have to pull some out every year, they take over the jungle in my back yard...

Was very surprised when the following year I had a lady slipper in my backyard....

The pink ones are beautiful but I don't think they grown in the cold climates like Michigan...

Several years back one of the plant catalogs I get had Lady Slippers for sale, they learned how to hyberdize (sp.) them...Cost: 150.00 per plant...Now the price is down to 75.00 per plant...
