At a time of tension between their organizations, White House senior adviser David Axelrod met with Fox News chairman and chief executive officer Roger Ailes two weeks ago, sources tell POLITICO.
The two met privately in Manhattan during the presidents visit to the United Nations.
The two discussed news coverage and the relationship between the organizations.
Ailes is the founder of Fox News. A key part of Axelrods portfolio is the presidents image and broad message.
POLITICO has asked Fox for comment, and will update with reaction.
White House officials have expressed pique with what they consider heavy coverage of Obama critics by opinion shows on the news channel.
Obama aides showed their displeasure by omitting Fox News Sunday when the president granted interviews last month to the other Sunday shows.
Noting coverage on cables Fox News Channel, the Fox broadcast network declined to carry Obamas address to a joint session of Congress, or his most recent prime-time news conference. White House officials did not like that, but say it is not their primary problem with Fox.
Hopefully, Ailes told him where to stick it!
Going to try to threaten Ailes into submission.
Nothing good can come of this meeting.
We owe Ailes a debt of gratitude for NOT broadcasting O’s so called speeches. We’ve seen more of the teleprompter than is bearable.
I would feel a lot better if Ailes had very publicly explained that a meeting would be inappropriate because media and government should be very separate.
The word will filter down...everyone will be told to mitigate their commentary, or else.
Beck yesterday called Fox the Alamo of the news world. I hope he is right.
Being that Roger Ailes was the one who invited Glen Beck over to Fox I think that he told Axlerod to “Stuff it”!
OMG!! Ailer should have told him “No Thank you”! This crap is why I don’t trust Fox all that much.
“a chill wind blows...” someone remind me, who said that? LMAO
Ailes will probably tell him in no uncertain terms what the 1st Amendment means.
unless Axelrod was asking him for a job...
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
Hope not! Rather it be called the San Jancinto of the news world.
Or, from a more recent war, the Bastogne of the news world.
The only way they should have met...is by letting Fox News televise the meeting. It's not like Axelrod has anything to hide...right?
After yesterday, when Beck basically called Obama a marxist, I think Ailes might have.
I saw a post somewhere, last night, that they were taking “Beck boycott” international. At first, I thought that they were talking about beer. Then, I got it. I didn’t bother to click on it, though. I didn’t want to risk my computer.

I’m pretty sure Politico got that part WRONG, something NOT unusual for them.
As far as I recall, FNC carried the address .. the local Fox News affiliates nationwide were given the option. Some did and some didn’t.
