Yes, we need health care reform. Medicare and Medicaid are bankrupting the country. The question is what is meant by health care reform.

Doesn’t the article say that he supports reform but not a public option? if that is so then he does not support Obamacare. Seems like a misleading headline.

More proof that Reagan was an anomaly for the GOP.

He's not necessarily wrong, depending on the details of the reform he supports.

For example, getting the government completely out of the private health care industry would be "reform."

What an information free article. In fact I might even say that I know less after reading it than I did before.

Bob Dole Bucks GOP, Says Obamacare Needed

Headline not supported by anything in the article.

Former Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole says a top GOP leader asked him not to publicly support health care reform. But he's doing so anyway.

Which top leader and what type of reform? I support reform too. I want individually purchased insurance to have the same tax treatment as insurance purchased through a company. Even if I pay every penny of my health insurance, if it is from a company sponsored plan I pay neither federal nor state income tax on that money. I don't even pay SS and Medicare tax on it. It's like that income never existed. That gives about a 45% price advantage just buying it through the company. Second, allow more high deductible plans. Third, allow people to buy across state lines so if my state wants to require homeopathic acupuncture (no needles actually used, just touch the needles to water and then dilute that ten trillion times), I don't want to have to buy a plan paying for it. There I support reform.

The former Kansas senator said Wednesday that health care reform is "one of the most important measures members of Congress will vote on in their lifetimes."

No argument there. This is a vote between freedom and eternal slavery to the government, with some GS-9 in Washington deciding whether I live or die. It is very important to kill that bill.

Dole opposes a government-run insurance option, saying it could put private insurers out of business.

But that is the heart and soul of Obamacare (which the headline said he supported). Remove that and any bill is just a hollow shell of its original takeover.

He expects something to pass by early 2010.

Expectation is not support. I expect the Bengals to lose to the Ravens. I'll still root for the Bengals.

Dole spoke at a health care summit in Kansas City. He said afterward that some Republicans have asked him to stay mum including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Some? List their names.

The Kentucky senator's spokesman denied the claim. He said McConnell hasn't spoken with Dole recently and agrees that reform is needed.

So, whether McConnell told Dole to STFU or not is a he said/he said, with neither side giving evidence or more details.

He doesn’t want a public option.

Bob Dole is a good man but some demand thought control and that everyone agree with their ideas otherwise they are insulted.

No way to build a winnning team.

It's the JOBS Stupid !!

Everytime a Republican has microphone is his/her face, they should remind the interviewer Americans see JOBS as the #1 issue in the country!

... that [fill-in-the-blank] is "one of the most important measures members of Congress will vote on in their lifetimes."

Every contentious power-grab by Washington, and every dereliction of constitutional duty (e.g., abdication of the power to regulate the value of money), is "one of the most important measures."

On the health care package, I think Mr. Dole is in fact not bucking the GOP. He's just saying what they wish they could say, just that the public isn't "ready" to accept it at this moment. The GOP is at least as guilty at power-grabbing and abdication as the DEMs are.

Bob Dole, bless his heart, lives in another era that no longer has much relevance in this day and age. He sees things through different eyes AND HAS BEEN WATCHING TOO MUCH MSM.

Overexposure to the liberal media can take its toll on anyone.

Gives credibility to democrat claims that this is a bi-partisan bill. Gives credibility to my decision not to be a republican.
