Former Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole says a top GOP leader asked him not to publicly support health care reform. But he's doing so anyway.
The former Kansas senator said Wednesday that health care reform is "one of the most important measures members of Congress will vote on in their lifetimes."
Dole opposes a government-run insurance option, saying it could put private insurers out of business. He expects something to pass by early 2010.
Dole spoke at a health care summit in Kansas City. He said afterward that some Republicans have asked him to stay mum including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
The Kentucky senator's spokesman denied the claim. He said McConnell hasn't spoken with Dole recently and agrees that reform is needed.

Ok, then try this one on the same theme.

Note the quote from Bill Clinton:
“He said that Mr. Dole was really good on health care for a Republican and that the two had mapped out a strategy for compromise.”
Really sound slike he will fight for us conservatives, doesn’t it?
Try to imagine him as POTUS, bending over to get Nancy’s wishes in the next congressional bill.
Gives credibility to democrat claims that this is a bi-partisan bill. Gives credibility to my decision not to be a republican.
thats about right.
Dole is still around? I thought that RINO’s instinctually knew where the ancient burial grounds are.... oh thats elephants.
I doubt that he will hold this position for more than 4 hours.
Dole = Irrelevant
Thanks for your post. I was beginning to think I was reading a different article.
“Bob Dole likes Obamacare. Bob Dole thinks America needs Obamacare. Bob Dole always speaks in the third person. Bob Dole likes Bob Dole....”
- Bob Dole on Bob Dole
You don't have to be a MENTAL GIANT to understand this...
Bob Dole.....makes me want to cuss!!
The GOP is full of assdoles like this
Shut up Bob...and take your Viagra.
I am all for health care reform also, just like Bob Dole I also don’t want a Government option.
I want tort reform, I want access to out-of-state insurance companies and plans, I want medicare fraud found and the people who do it jailed, I want etc, etc, etc...
I want a lot of things, but most of all I don’t want anyone telling me what I can and can’t do who is more worried about one small cross section of our voting society and ignore the majority of hard working people like myself.
Dole states NO public option. So where is the beef?
Yeah! Yeah! I know he was a sorry candidate, like McCain. Both thought that as vets of military and senate, it was their time. Both failed to recognize the wildly leftist will of libs in the Dem party and wanted to campaign as Mr. Nice Guy doing business as usual.
vaudine
I agree with most of what you have said, but definitely not this. ObamaCare is still bad without the public option. The Baucus bill does not have the public option.
ObamaCare also levies a mandatory requirement to obtain health insurance on the individual and business or face a fine administered by the IRS.
The federal government will decide what is an acceptable health care plan for the various exchanges/co-ops that are set up including setting reimbursement rates for doctors and hospitals. "Cadillac plans" will be taxed under the Baucus bill.
The Medicaid rolls are increased by 11 million up from the current 60 million under Medicaid now. States pay about half the bill now under this program.
The Medicare advantage program--22% of the 45 million Medicare recipients use this program--will be cut resulting in loss of benefits and increased premium payments. Obamacare cuts hundreds of millions of dollars from Medicare.
I could go on and on with the problems associated with ObamaCare even minus the public option. The reality is that the Dems can set effectively have a public option by structuring the exchanges/co-ops to be essentially the public option sans the name. More and more people will be forced into the exchanges, which will eventually morph into a public option. And in the meantime, health care premiums for private plans will go up significantly.
Why can;t our LOSER LIBERALS just GO AWAY??
Dole says we need health care reform. We do.
We do NOT need/want Obamacare. Dole isn't supporting Obamacare!
If we didn't need health care reform then what is Cong. Paul Ryan's plan all about?
Is he still alive? Anyway, the article doesn’t justify the headline.
