Obama Nobel win shocks Swedish peace group

The Swedish Peace and Arbitration Society (Svenska Freds) has classified as "shameful" the decision by the Nobel Committee in Oslo to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 to Barack Obama.

"The choice of Barack Obama as the recipient of the world's foremost peace prize is shocking," said the group's chairwoman Anna Ek in a statement.

Ek conceded that the US president had sent "positive signals" with regard to his future commitment to global peace.

"But at the same time Obama is the president of the biggest military power in the world and is waging two wars in the world. That should certainly disqualify him from a peace prize," said Ek.

Adolph Hitler, Man of the YearGreatest single news event of 1938 took place on September 29, when four statesmen met at the Führerhaus, in Munich, to redraw the map of Europe. The three visiting statesmen at that historic conference were Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain of Great Britain, Premier Edouard Daladier of France, and Dictator Benito Mussolini of Italy. But by all odds the dominating figure at Munich was the German host, Adolf Hitler. more...

Might want to dig around and see if there was any bribery. It is how the Obama machine works.

But he wishes they'd end, Ekkie, and that's damned well good enough.

I agree. They should have given the prize to someone who is much more peaceful (that is, wants Israel destroyed) such as Ahmadinejad.

The ruling elite are trying to cover the stench of Obama's failure with accolades.

Their 'theater of praise' will not work because the peasants have discovered that the emperor Obama is naked and void of wisdom.

Not sure how accurate this is but I just heard on Helen Glover's radio show that the Peace Price nominating rules dictates that the nomination must be made before Jan. 20...

So if that is true....Zero was nominated before he was even the POTUS!!

WTF?

This was a great way to wake up. Barfing before breakfast. Reminds me of college. Wasn’t pleasant then either.

Actually Feb 1 is the cutoff based on their website...
February – Deadline for submission. The Committee bases its assessment on nominations that must be postmarked no later than 1 February each year. Nominations postmarked and received after this date are included in the following year's discussions. In recent years, the Committee has received close to 200 different nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. The number of nominating letters is much higher, as many are for the same candidates.

...so there were 9 working days to submit his nomination after Obama took office.

My God, this news ruined a perfectly good cup of coffee.

Shocked? I am ashamed for the ignorance in this world. Lock and load folks, there is going to be a war like never before in this country and blood will spill

“Instead, the prize risks looking preposterous in its claims, patronising in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any tangible outcome for peace. “

Michael Binyon

from the comments:
“Since the nominations are made in February, obama was nominated 2-3 weeks after being sworn in as POTUS. What could he have done in that time period to advance the cause of peace in the world. When you look at recent recipients, you realize that this award is meaningless (Arrafat, Carter, Gore....)”
