(Newark) Star-Ledger agreed not to endorse before 10/16 gubernatorial debate

The Star-Ledger endorsement of independent Christopher Daggett could violate state regulations that prohibit debate sponsors from endorsing candidates before the completion of the debate. In their application to sponsor the October 16 gubernatorial debate, the Star-Ledger agreed to not endorse a candidate for Governor until after the debate was over.

The New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC), in their published regulations on gubernatorial debate sponsorship (N.J.A.C. 19:25-15.50) states that "to be eligible for selection by the Commission to sponsor one or both of the gubernatorial general election debates, an organization... must not have endorsed any candidate in the pending general election for the office of Governor and must agree not to make any such endorsement until the completion of any debate sponsored by the organization."

Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine, Republican Christopher Christie and Daggett are set to debate on Friday at William Paterson University. The debate will be streamed live on FoxNews.com, and aired on Saturday on WXTF-TV Channel 29 in Philadelphia and on Sunday on WOR-TV in New York. The Star-Ledger, The Record and the Herald News, which all share content on state politics, are also sponsors.

Star Ledger endorses Dagget to draw votes from Christie. Damn the rules they agreed to, they need to make sure Corslime stays in office.

That helps Corzine by endorsing the independent/conservative candidate.

This Daggett fellow has to be financed by Corzine. No real conservative would work for the DEP. Or under Tom Kean for that matter.

For those who aren’t familiar with this race in the Garden State: Incumbent Governor Corzine is a liberal democrat who has continued to bankrupt New Jersey with the usual high-tax, union-friendly, left-wing policies, including a ton of corruption involving many democrat leaders. He has been a total failure and everyone knows it. Christie, the republican, built a reputation as a hard-line prosecutor. He had a healthy lead in the early polls, which, by some accounts, has dwindled precariously. Daggett, the independent, seems like a decent and honorable guy, but he has no realistic shot at winning. He will most likely be the “Ross Perot” in the race, pulling just enough votes from the republican to give the democrat the victory. I believe that the Star-Ledger’s endorsement of Daggett is a back-door way of supporting Corzine without having to justify his record, which is putrid. Just my humble opinion.

It is a typical Democrat scam to siphon votes away from Christie. The fools in NJ will probably fall for it.

The mantra is “both parties stink” when your Dem candiddate is hated. This is a typical Dem trick. See Clinton’s friend Ross PEE-ROT.

I was looking for a screen cap pic of the look on his face when Paul Newman’s boot found its target...

Your correct, Daggett is far from conservative. He is pro-choice, anti 2nd Amendment has the endorsement of the Sierra Club and claims that his plan “to expand the sales tax” is not a tax increase.
