Rev. Al Sharpton pleaded with the National Football League on Monday to deny conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh the opportunity to buy the St. Louis Rams franchise.
In a letter sent to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Sharpton wrote that he was disturbed to hear about Limbaughs interest in the Rams and asked for a meeting with Goodell to discuss the myriad of reasons as to why [Limbaugh] should not be given an opportunity to do so.
Sharpton argued that Limbaugh has been anti-NFL in his comments about several of the leagues players, specifically naming Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick.
In addition, Sharpton wrote that Limbaughs recent statement that the NFL was beginning to look like a fight between the Crips and the Bloods without the weapons, was disturbing.
Limbaugh confirmed rumors last week that he and St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts are bidding for the Rams.
Dave and I are part of a bid to buy the Rams and we are continuing the process. But I can say no more because of a confidentiality clause in our agreement with Goldman Sachs, Limbaugh said in a statement. We cannot and will not talk about our partners. But if we prevail we will be the operators of the team.
Maybe Al Sharpton wants to “Jew them down” (a phrase he has publicly used, the damned antisemite).
I guess Sharpton needs some publicity.
The race Man makes his voice heard; Keep it up Al and and drive more Whites away from the game.
Sharpton is a kneejerk racist. If he would actually read or listen to the comment about McNabb, he would find that it was "anti-Media", rather than anti-McNabb.
On the other hand, maybe not. He's too stupid to understand the actual comment.
Keeping himself in the race-baiting business is Sharpton’s primary goal. It’s the only way thus far that he has been able to make a living.
Rev Al Sharpton -
You CAN stop Limbaugh.
And in a way that I would approve of.
Why don’t you (or a coalition of race-baiters) out-bid Rush? Capitalism is a beautiful thing, Al.
Yeah, Al will tank your salary potential if you’re a player and revenue potential if you’re a team. All for a five figure donation, what a deal!
If I was bidding for a team, I would be scared in 2011 it is possible that no salary cap will be in place. That would be a disaster to the finances to most teams in the league. That is part of the problem with MLB, only the big market teams can afford to keep up with the Yankees.
So wait, they want to deny an American the right to participate in a job or venture becasue of his race or this political views? Don’t they see the hypocracy here? Have the looked at the current Czars for goodness sakes?
Al wants a piece of the action. A few bucks and he gives Rush his blessing! Al the charlatan.
That said, Rush's comments that the NFL and the media wanted to see black QB's do well doesn't sound particularly racist, in fact, it sounds quite the contrary. And are Rush's comments about affirmative action and over-sensitivity re: political correctness racist. Absolutely not.
What Sharpton is saying is that he and other race baiters can spend their careers whining about racial injustice, but if anyone takes an opposing position such as to complain about too much emphasis being placed on race...that is racist.
When will Sharpton apologise for the Tawana Brawley fiasco?
I wouldn’t trust “rev” al to water my dogs.
And where is he going to get the cash to out-bid Rush, ACORN??
Well, it’s none of my business, but I confess that when I first heard about this my thought was, This is a bad economic time to put a lot of money into anything.
Things are tight, and prices are likely to continue to drop. So why sink a whole lot of money, maybe even borrowed money, into a football franchise NOW?
When will Sharpton apologise for the Tawana Brawley fiasco?
I wouldn’t trust “rev” al to water my dogs.
People say to to NFL: “ignore sharpton!”
I was thinking the same thing.. He could get silent partners, maybe former acorn investors. :-p
So is Brother Al going to put in his bid for the team? If not, then he just needs to keep his nose out of it and shut up.
Exactly, and you must be all hypocrisy, all the time to qualify as liberal, socialist, Marxist, environmentalist, race pimp, or DemoRat.
That's OK, just let your dogs water Al.
Sharpton doesn’t care about racism. He is there to promote black ownership (thus against Rush) because he knows it will benefit HIM, not necessarily blacks as a whole.
Ask me if I’ll ever watch another NFL game if they block Limbaugh . . .
They stand to destroy the NFL if they cave to these kind of threats. . . IMHO. The NFL just might revert to being like the old Negro Baseball leagues. The NFL should remember who their customers are. I guess African-Americans are not going to rest until they allow racism from their side to destroy everything in sight. They need to think twice about pushing this. Big salary contracts for all players, black and white, are really placed in jeopardy as a part of the collateral damage from this ploy.
Does BIG AL know 50% of the RAMS is owned by the WAL-MART family? Why isn't he on their capitalistic arses?
I hope Rush gets to be an owner of the RAMS. St. Louis will love the guy!!! I hope he renames the Dome the DITTO DOME.
If black players don't want to play for his team let ‘em look at other teams or start shelving Wheaties in Iowa.
GO RUSH——GO RAMS
Being an 0 in 4 team, do we really care?
No problem, however, when J Lo, who has made actual racist remarks in the past, decided to put some money into an NFL team.
Screw Al Sharpton. he is a joke and the biggest RACIST of all
Love it.
I want to know Al Sharpton’s IQ.
-—————————————————————————>
Michael Vick OK?
And what about all the other NFL homeboys that have broken the law with their gansta-rap crap? Where was BIG AL then?
BIG AL needs to start praising the likes of a self-made man like Rush to young black kids and men. We are all created equal, but evidently “Reverend Al” never got to that part of the Bible.
