Sharpton to NFL: Block Limbaugh
Politico ^ | Oct 12, 2009 | ANDY BARR

Posted on 10/12/2009 9:55:01 AM PDT by BAW

Rev. Al Sharpton pleaded with the National Football League on Monday to deny conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh the opportunity to buy the St. Louis Rams franchise.

In a letter sent to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Sharpton wrote that he was “disturbed” to hear about Limbaugh’s interest in the Rams and asked for a meeting with Goodell “to discuss the myriad of reasons as to why [Limbaugh] should not be given an opportunity to do so.”

Sharpton argued that Limbaugh has been “anti-NFL” in his comments about several of the league’s players, specifically naming Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick.

In addition, Sharpton wrote that Limbaugh’s “recent statement that the NFL was beginning to look like a fight between the Crips and the Bloods without the weapons, was disturbing.”

Limbaugh confirmed rumors last week that he and St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts are bidding for the Rams.

“Dave and I are part of a bid to buy the Rams and we are continuing the process. But I can say no more because of a confidentiality clause in our agreement with Goldman Sachs,” Limbaugh said in a statement. “We cannot and will not talk about our partners. But if we prevail we will be the operators of the team.”

Maybe Al Sharpton wants to “Jew them down” (a phrase he has publicly used, the damned antisemite).

Sharpton is a kneejerk racist. If he would actually read or listen to the comment about McNabb, he would find that it was "anti-Media", rather than anti-McNabb.

On the other hand, maybe not. He's too stupid to understand the actual comment.

Keeping himself in the race-baiting business is Sharpton’s primary goal. It’s the only way thus far that he has been able to make a living.

A good number of NFL teams are having trouble selling out these days. Internationally, there are only a handful of individuals or groups fiscally sound enough to operate an NFL franchise. Yet, Sharpton and others, most notably the head of the NFL Players Union are trying to block the sale to a qualified private citizen.
If they're successful, that will do it for me. It'll be easier for me than most to kick the NFL habit having witnessed six championship campaigns in the Steel City. But, between Dan the Ambassador Rooney's pathetic display after the last Superbowl and now this, I'll be spending a lot more time fishing in the fall.

Rev Al Sharpton -

You CAN stop Limbaugh.
And in a way that I would approve of.

Why don’t you (or a coalition of race-baiters) out-bid Rush? Capitalism is a beautiful thing, Al.

Yeah, Al will tank your salary potential if you’re a player and revenue potential if you’re a team. All for a five figure donation, what a deal!

If I was bidding for a team, I would be scared in 2011 it is possible that no salary cap will be in place. That would be a disaster to the finances to most teams in the league. That is part of the problem with MLB, only the big market teams can afford to keep up with the Yankees.

Growing up I used to feel so sorry for the people of Russia. Their newspapers and television was biased, only members of the Communist party could get special privileges, and those who spoke out against the government were penalized. Sure sounds familiar.

Sharpton is no doubt deeply jealous of Limbaugh's success.

That said, Rush's comments that the NFL and the media wanted to see black QB's do well doesn't sound particularly racist, in fact, it sounds quite the contrary. And are Rush's comments about affirmative action and over-sensitivity re: political correctness racist. Absolutely not.

What Sharpton is saying is that he and other race baiters can spend their careers whining about racial injustice, but if anyone takes an opposing position such as to complain about too much emphasis being placed on race...that is racist.
