A STRONG PACIFIC STORM MOVING THROUGH NORTHERN AND CENTRAL
CALIFORNIA LATE TUESDAY THROUGH EARLY WEDNESDAY WILL BRING SOME
IMPACTS TO EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA.

THE STORM WILL GENERATE A LARGE WEST SWELL WHICH WILL MOVE THROUGH
THE COASTAL WATERS WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY BRINGING HIGH SURF TO
EXPOSED WEST FACING BEACHES WITH SOME BREAKERS EXCEEDING 10 FEET
POSSIBLE. THIS SURF WILL CAUSE DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS.

OTHER IMPACTS MAY EXTEND INTO NORTHERN PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA WITH MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE AS FAR SOUTH
AS THE SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS AND STRONG...GUSTY WINDS POSSIBLE
IN MOUNTAIN AND DESERT AREAS OF SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY. ANY
MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL COULD CAUSE MUD AND DEBRIS FLOWS IN THE
SHEEP BURN AREA. THERE IS A CHANCE OF RAIN FOR AREAS FARTHER SOUTH
AND AMOUNTS IN THESE AREAS ARE EXPECTED TO BE LESS.

PRECEDING THE STRONG STORM...A WEAKER SYSTEM WILL BRING A CHANCE
OF LIGHTER RAINFALL LATE TODAY THROUGH EARLY TUESDAY WITH GREATEST
RAINFALL CHANCES TO THE NORTH AND LESSER CHANCES TO THE SOUTH.

It's really bitter cold here in central CA. Probably won't climb to 70 degrees here and supposed to have overnite lows in the 60's. This is killing me, I just can't shake this cold.

I am looking forward to some weather after our long dry summer, but it amazes me what they call a “storm” in California, at least here in the Central Valley. Having lived through a typhoon’s direct hit on Guam and many hellaceous thunderstorms on the east coast, I just have a hard time getting excited about a little rain and some wind. That being said, I do hope those on the coast and in slide areas are safe.

Typhoon Moisture to Power California Soaker

Heavy rain that will soak California will hearken back to last week's powerful Western Pacific typhoon. Melor dissipated after pounding Japan, but its heavy load of tropical warmth and moisture has since been handed off downstream to a storm slated to reach the California coast Tuesday.

What this will mean is that California will get widespread rainfall between Monday night and Wednesday measuring 2-4 inches, with 6-inch amounts in along the coast ranges and the Sierra Nevada. Even higher amounts will show along the normally wet slopes.

The southerly reach of the heavy rain is not yet certain. Southern California north and west of Los Angeles is much more likely to get a soaking than areas from the city on south and east.

A high freezing level will keep the rain/snow line above the 7,000-foot mark. So heavy snow, and it will be measured by the foot, will keep to the upper

Storm Looms off West Coast

The first major West Coast storm of the season will slam into California late Monday night and continue inland Tuesday and Tuesday night.

The combination of strong winds and heavy rain will create all sorts of problems starting early Tuesday morning, especially near the coast, and then in the mountains.

Heavy rainfall, on the order of 2 to 4 inches, will douse a large portion of the hilly region just inland from the coast and also through the Sierra Nevada into Tuesday night. The combination of flash flooding and sudden mudslides could lead to some road closures. A few mountain locations may even get as much as 6 to 8 inches of rain!

This will be a warm storm, so snow levels in the Cascades will be near 8,000 feet and rising, which is well above pass level and good news for those who plan on crossing the Sierra on Interstate 80.
