Ya know Landru,
When ever there is an over reach by either the left or the right there is an equal backlash.
This guy is pushing for every agenda the libs have ever dreamed of.
I wonder what right winger will raise and how nuts may he be?

“Doerr further said, “As with any good federal policy decision, discussions about measures that may restrict public access to public resources must involve an open public process,...”

Is this where I came in or where I get off? I thought I was in line for the men’s room...

Which part of the Constitution , pray tell, permits this guy to co-opt fishing in Federal waters? When will someone put a nose ring on this clown and snub it down?

Clearly, good conservation principles must prevail when it comes to commercial fishing in the Great Lakes. I’m just not sure I trust this administration to anything “good.”

Agreed. That said, I actually skimmed the whole report—a tough read—and didn’t see anything about banning fishing. Did see a bunch of climate change crap, though.

I couldn’t find anything in the report about banning fishing.

It did say, ..."develop zoning which may permanently close vast areas of fishing waters nationwide. "

These people leave no stone unturned!

“Big tent” you say?

And just which “big tent” might that be, pray tell?

You’re certainly not referring to the “republican” tent, are you?

Because for years now they have been welcoming with open arms those who espouse sodomy and prenatal infanticide.... just like the “other progressive party”.

Conservative, Constitutionalist Evangelical Christians however, seem to be “persona non gratia” and are quickly shown the back door of said “big tent”.

Try to run for anything as a pro-Life Conservative up here in Maine with Sen. Oly Snowes’ personal private party and you’ll find out pretty frickin’ quick just how “big” this “tent” is...

...And where the back door is located.

I think that it's telling that Sportsfishermen groups were effectively locked out of participation in this.

That tells me something.....

In theory, I'm in favor of managing our natural resources, including managing our fisheries. There have been cases in the past where, without good stewardship, fisheries were decimated. The Chesapeake Bay comes to mind. I think it's come back quite a bit now after having been ravaged. I worked in a kitchen in the area, and found it quite sad that "Maryland" crab cakes contained Venezualan crab meat.

I doubt that the Obama team will merely manage our fisheries responsibly. I'm sure they will show themselves to be enviro-whackos. But that doesn't mean wildlife management is a bad thing.

There is the question of jurisdiction, but like most Constitutional questions, it's merely an intellectual exercise. Fedzilla can pretty much do as it pleases.

Anyway, I didn't see any ban of sportfishing in the report. And in theory, there are cases where sportfishing DOES need to be limited. I wish sport fisherman were all responsible stewards, but we know they aren't. That's why there are size limits etc.

I'm a sport fisherman in a densely populated state, so I have some understanding and sympathy for regulation. If we didn't have regulations here in NJ, the damn russians would have caught and eaten every fish in NJ by now.

He’s looking to be a Jimmy Carter style micro manager. What’s next? Supervising tennis court times at the White House???

I've little to quarrel about in your post.

Except as you and I know...

Sportsmen, their $$, and their labor have saved wetlands, species, lakes, etc..etc..

And for them not to have a voice in what may happen....is a "tell".

I don't expect anyone in this administration or in the U.N. to do the right thing.

"'Big tent' you say?"

Why yes George, that is exactly what I said.

"And just which 'big tent' might that be, pray tell?"

The one in the process of being raised, right now.

"You’re certainly not referring to the 'republican' tent, are you?"

Kind of.
Republicans will be welcome as will Constitutionalists etc annnnnnd hunters, gun owners, fishermen, individuals *&* businesses impacted by C&T, those crushed by the health-care doonboggle, ordinary taxpayers featuring themselves "moderates" and others, to be added as 2010 approaches. I'd be remiss if I didn't include you & I, also.

This "Big Tent", George? Lovely term coined by Clintigulan Liberal-Socialists as you know. The tent's being raised by the unlikeliest of all sources too.
The big zerO, itself. LOL
Let's hope It keeps it up.

"Because for years now they have been welcoming with open arms those who espouse sodomy and prenatal infanticide...just like the 'other progressive party'."

Not speaking about those issues, George; though, your statement's not without merit, either.
First zerO must be stopped, minimally slowed down anyway. We get back an equilibrium those issues will have more teeth, ideally.

"Conservative, Constitutionalists Evangelical Christians however, seem to be 'persona non gratia' and are quickly shown the back door of said 'big tent'."

Oh thanks my friend, add conservatives (such as myself) & Christians, Evangelical or otherwise.

There's room for everyone, as zerO pisses off more & more "groups" the Identity Politics the sot & his harpies have successfully used against the entire spectrum of the republic's right-wing will surely bite 'em squarely on the keister. ;^)

"Try to run for anything as a pro-Life Conservative up here in Maine with Sen. Oly Snowes’ personal private party and you’ll find out pretty frickin’ quick just how 'big' this 'tent' is...And where the back door is located."

Every word, true.
Similar crap here in my once rock solid conservative Wisconsin, but George? Change is indeed in the air and change worth hoping for, this time.

Nevertheless, enough speculation & latrine house lawyering.

Let's wait & see what happens in 2010.
I can assure you the disloyal oppostion's doing just that, with baited breath.

My son lives in Northern California, so he’s already had lots of bans on this kind of fishing, that kind of fishing, etc., but this would really be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. He said this year they’ve already virtually destroyed the sport fishing party boat business with their restrictions.

He has a boat and he goes fairly far off shore, but then, he also hits the Delta and the lakes. There’s no kind of fishing he doesn’t like (well, maybe fly fishing, which he doesn’t seem to do much).

I’ve lived in St A about 5 years. Great place! The “new old” bridge is supposed to open next spring, believe it or not. It seems like forever...the pile drivers going day and night!

When my son visits, we go out on a party boat...but I must be a jinx, because we never catch anything! It’s fun anyway. I hope that Obama and his idiots don’t ruin something that Americans have loved to do and just taken for granted for centuries. I can’t even believe they’re considering it.

livius,
About 40 years ago I would visit my Grand mom in Jacksonville and we’d go to St. Aug. and eat at a place and look over the old bridge and watch water traffic.
Good memories.
Two years ago the family and i took a drive around the country and after driving the Columbia River we drove south from there to San Francisco then turned east again.
Very few actual harbors in N. Calif. and the Pacific is sure a lot rougher than either the Gulf of Mexico or the Atlantic.
