I’ve read this several times. But I’m pretty sure i read somewhere else that the reconciliation rules expire October 15th, in which case it would be too late for the Senate to use that rule, even if the House could ever get their bill passed and sent to the Senate.
Ping to me to find out if this is true
I heard that also. I also heard that a different type of nuclear option could be used, where the Senate votes for cloture with 60 votes on the Baucus bill, or something considered mild enough for Olympia Snowe, and then substitutes a whole bunch of the nastiest ideas, such as the public option, and passes it with just a majority vote, so some senators in vulnerable positions can say they voted against the final bill.
There seems to be no limit to the deviousness of our representatives.
Perhaps a useful point of order????
I thought so, too.
“October 15: Budget Resolution deadline for committees to report budget reconciliation legislation (health care reform and student loan reform), although congressional leaders will initially try to move a free-standing health reform bill without budget reconciliation's filibuster-proof protections. “
but that's just the deadline to REPORT ? budget reconciliation legislation (health care reform and student loan reform), ...
Isn't that report what they just knocked together behind closed doors, sans republicans?
I cannot understand how one party can be totally excluded from meetings/deliberations.
One party having a majority has never meant, that I recall, that that party has total power with NO input from the other side at all. And yet that is exactly what has been going on since day one.
It's tantamount to a coup.
It appears they intend to do it.
