This animated map provides a striking visual of employment trends over the last business cycle using net change in jobs from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on a rolling 12-month basis.

Why is this economic news posted in CHAT?

I like it better posted as NEWS

Where is the news value? This is just a visualization layer of data. Data that isn't available at the link posted.

Moody's Analytics cost money, this is only a filtered version of the numbers.

There is another animated map out there that is county by county for the same time period.

http://www.slate.com/id/2216238/

Neither really add news information, they provide a visual conversation starter to banter about the jobs market.

Or something like that.

2009 looks like a nuclear war. Amazing.

It certainly shows trends, based on solid numbers

Fitting that the job losses are in red as the Communists wrested control of the government. Looks a lot like those “red menace” films from the 1950s.

All those giant red circles should have Obama colors on them.

I think the Slate.com map is better.

It is focused on counties, not top 100 statistical metropolitan areas.

I live in fly over country. No where near a major city. Life here is not like life in top 100 cities. Less boom times, but less bust times.

A little more sanity. And yes there are sill people who like to live out of the main stream.

Look at the map link in post #7. It is by county. In my opinion more detailed. Goes back 2 years.

I don’t think their numbers truly reflect our county. It states Jefferson County. KY gained 8000 jobs. Ford has dropped many, and with all the small businesses closing there are a whole lot of people without jobs. Me being one of those people.

If your talking about the Slate.com map, you have to realize that the data is behind reality for a few months. The last data update was through June 2009.
