WASHINGTON (AP) Sen. John McCain on Friday pressed President Barack Obama to give a posthumous pardon to Jack Johnson, the black heavyweight boxing champion who was imprisoned nearly a century ago because of his romantic ties with a white woman.
McCain, R-Ariz., and Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., noted in a letter to Obama that both houses of Congress this summer passed their resolution urging a pardon. After the vote, the lawmakers wrote to Obama in August asking him to issue the pardon.
"Regrettably, we have not received a response from you or any member of your administration," they wrote in Friday's letter, adding they hoped that Obama would be eager to "right this wrong and erase an act of racism that sent an American citizen to prison."
The White House had no immediate comment.

I can’t believe McCain didn’t use this during the campaign. He might have won the election. Ya, right!
Racism is a more useful tool for Obama; then no racism.
Why did he not petition the Bush administration?
At least Juan’s not wasting time on frivolous, inconsequential BS ... wait a second
Glad to see he’s still right in the middle of the really major, world-altering, important stuff.
Sheesh.
Colonel, USAFR
Isn;t there something a LITTLE BIT MORE PRESSING, Juan!!
Jimmy Carter’s mother also said ...”I shoulda stayed a virgin”!
It’s good to know McCain has a pulse on the truly important issues of the day - like exonerating dead boxers and forcing baseball cheats to testify before Congress. < /sarc>
Speaking of anti-miscegenation laws:
A lot of black women consider white women to be stealing good, honest, marriageable black men away from them. I wouldn’t be surprised to see anti-miscegenation laws promoted by so-called anti-racist progressives under the guise of “protecting African-American culture and families.”
He was a joke of a presidential candidate, and he now seems hell bent on convincing anyone who didn't recognize that fact that he is still a joke and a traitor to Republican ideals.
I doubt if McCain knows he’s a tool at all but all 0buttcrack needs to do is sign his name. Which one is up to him but this thing hangs for months now for lack of a two second scribble on a piece of paper.
Wonder why McCain didn’t bring this up when W was president. Guess he waited ‘til now to show his “concern”.
And he doesn’t come to Texas for the stupid Thousand Points of Light anniversary ‘cause daddy Bush told him he could stop the protests. He tried but the Aggie Students said “To hell with you, George H.W.”. I wish they’d ask him to move his damned library to Maine.
