Hezbollah Gets SCUDS
The Strategy Page ^ | 10/19/2009 | Strategy Page

Posted on 10/20/2009 1:17:41 AM PDT by ErnstStavroBlofeld

Arab media in the Persian Gulf have been reporting that Syria, apparently on the orders of Iran, has turned over about 300 long range ballistic missiles to Hezbollah control. The missiles have apparently not left Syria (they would be hard to miss, being driven around southern Lebanon). The reports add that Hezbollah personnel are being trained to operate the missiles.

Syria has underground storage and launch facilities for its arsenal of over a thousand SCUD missiles. Armed with half ton high explosive and cluster bomb warheads, the missiles have ranges of 500-700 kilometers. Syria also has some 90 older Russian Frog-7 missiles (70 kilometer range, half ton warhead) and 210 more modern Russian SS-21 missiles (120 kilometer range, half ton warhead) operating with mobile launchers. There are also 60 mobile SCUD launchers. The Syrians have a large network of camouflaged launching sites for the mobile launchers. Iran and North Korea have helped Syria build underground SCUD manufacturing and maintenance facilities. The Syrian missiles are meant to hit Israeli airfields, missile launching sites and nuclear weapons sites, as well as population centers. Syria hopes to do enough damage with a missile strike to cripple Israeli combat capability. Hezbollah is more interested in killing civilians, and would aim their missiles at Israeli cities.

This should make Syria and Iran hard targets in days.

We wouldn’t put up with this, and Israel isn’t about to either.

Well Obama, which side are you going to come down on? I wonder...

All of his talk and association are pretty much anti-Israel.

I’m sure Israel’s enemies were emboldened by the election.

Oh, no doubt about it. They openly plan now to take out Israel. You won’t hear a peep out of this White House on the matter.

Not just Russia, but Iran also wants oil at $70/barrel or above. This world is so upside-down I fight back regurgitation daily.

So Putin must be Obamas Foreign Policy Czar. Or perhaps Obama is Putin's American Czar.

Those Syrians also have Chemical and Biological warheads for those Scuds.

More unfortunate news out of the region.

Escalating Iran-Pak tensions may weaken Waziristan offensive, warns US diplomat

Growing tensions with Iran at this time are just not going to help. If Pak-Iran tensions grow, that will not help anyone. The danger will be of Pakistan loosing focus on Waziristan,” The Daily Times quoted a US diplomat in Islamabad, as saying.

thanks for the heads up

saw a similar article a few days ago, but there was no mention of SCUDs

I look for Hezbollah/Lebanon/Syria/Iran to mix it up with Israel within the next 4-6 months

This demonstrates the complexity of an attack on Iran. Israel has to defend her homeland at the same time. Iran has probably got Hezbollah and maybe Syria to agree to open up a second and third front if it comes down. There's also The West Bank question. Would they get involved? But Arabs makes promises easily. Carrying them out is another thing. Expect the unexpected.

He’ll need a few months to ‘think about it’. In the mean time Israel should put a lid in it and be happy for Hezbollah’s attentions. Hey, this will be another hem & haw moment for Barry to waffle in. The press will cover for his goofing around and the world will go on.

I think oil is still priced too high. I’ll have to admit to that being a gut feeling pulled out of the nether regions, but $80 per barrel just seems silly to me.

This drives my desire to see us use a lot less of it.

Putin is a guy that could have put his nation on a path to join the West and be a transformative figure for Russia. Instead he has made his Eastern alliance. That has resulted in him being a transformative figure, but it will never make his nation great and secure.

He isn’t a dummy. It just baffles me to see him fight the West, when he could cooperate with it and benefit from that cooperation.

Well, it seems to me you can’t let this take place. Those bombs will cause serious damage. They can’t be allowed to be deployed.

Yep. Putin is his own worst enemy. He could sit back and gather the cash. Invading Georgia cost him at least $10 billion in investments almost immediately.

Thanks F15Eagle. Yes, that Georgian thing seemed more geared to showing the West what a tiger he was. Was it really worth the effort when you get down to it?

More silliness IMO...

Just catchin'up,,,

SCUDS could mean a cem-wep attack on Israel,,,(nerve gas),,,

Google Earth shows mines on the Syrian side of that

mountain range but none in Lebanon,,,

Jeffers had some good maps of that AO,,,

IMHO: Moozzi could overload Israel's ADA at this point,,,

Then there's this :

Attack submarines underway (away from homeport): 36 subs (66%
