NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Metro Nashville Police Department is standing by its investigation into the deaths of former Titans' quarterback Steve McNair and girlfriend Sahel Kazemi after a national report case study out Monday raises questions about the murder-suicide.
Metro police have maintained almost from the start that McNair was shot by 20-year-old Kazemi, who then turned the gun on herself.
In a story aired Monday on CBS's The Early Show, reporter Armen Keteyian interviewed friends and a former boyfriend of Kazemi, who claimed they did not believe that she killed McNair and then herself.
The report shows never before seen video featuring Kazemi, waiting to be booked in the Metro jail after she was arrested on July 2 for driving under the influence in Nashville.
It was just hours after she and McNair, a passenger in the car she was driving, were pulled over and just two days before Kazemi and McNair were found dead in a downtown area condo he shared with a friend.
The CBS report suggests that Kazemi's smiling, playful nature in the booking video seem far different from the picture of a despondent young woman painted by police.
Another segment of the CBS report questioned when Kazemi purchased what police say was the murder weapon from a man later identified as Adrian Gilliam.
Initially, police said handgun was sold to Kazemi by Gilliam on July 2, after she was released from the DUI arrest and booking.
CBS said it uncovered Kazemi's waitress workplace records that indicate the she did not leave her waitress job at Dave and Busters to buy the handgun when investigators first say she did.
In his report, Keteyian says that suggests Metro police may not know when Kazemi purchased the gun.
Metro police spokesperson Don Aaron countered that CBS must not have considered proceedings during Gilliam's guilty plea in Nashville Federal Court, when the suspect stipulated in a statement-of-fact that his gun was sold to Kazemi on July 3, the day before the murder-suicide.
Aaron said originally investigators believed the purchase was made on July 2 because of what they were told initially during interviews. He said the date was later updated during subsequent interviews.
He said the initial error of when Kazemi purchased the gun "does not make any difference" because both dates came after the DUI arrest, and remain consistent with police beliefs that she was despondent over her relationship endings with McNair.

That someone left their job to run an errand without punching out and back in is not necessarily remarkable.
The police seem never to have considered that McNair shot the girl, then shot himself, THEN put the pistol in her hand...
Rather an oversight, that.
...but we can’t have Rush involved with the NFL.
They could have dog fights at half time at the NFL. /sarcasm
A CBS investigation? Call me skeptical until I see some fake but accurate documents...
“...shot himself, THEN put the pistol in her hand...”
How would he have accomplished that?
Notice how the press ignores the fact the female bought the murder weapon and the man who sold it to her has already been arrested.
Lets review.
1) Female bought murder weapon.
2) Female shoots victim in back of head.
3) Female shoots herself.
4) Murder weapon with her finger prints located under her body.
QED
Or the gun could have been delivered to her at the restaurant..............
Breaking: I have just received a fax from a Kinko’s in Texas indicating that there is evidence to support the fact the George Bush was in Nashville on the day in question and that National Guard documents show he was the owner of the gun in question. Film at 11!
I knew it!
Did somebody murder one and suicide the other one?
Paraffin test?
Since the police are standing by their report certain things would be noted.
If McNair was resting on the couch, there would be powder burns consistent with the distance from which he was shot. Blood spatter would be found in a consistent pattern outward from his body, and the blood droplets would be found on Kazemi and the gun she used.
Then, after she shot herself, the powder burns on her body would be consistent with the distance she was holding the gun, and would probably be very close to the body, indicating contact or near contact at the point of entry. Then, the blood droplets would be projected away from her body, and would overlay the powder and McNair's blood spatter on the gun and the blood droplets and gun powder on and around McNair from the injuries from the first shots.
Both bodies would be at certain stage of contemporaneous rigor mortis and blood coagulation if she shot him and then immediately shot herself. A test by the coroner's office would establish the approximate time of death.
The would be an intensely investigated crime scene, and it would be difficult in the extreme for a third party to have done it, or for it to have happened in a manner in conflict with the reports.
It was Mr Plum in the kitchen with the candlestick.
Uh... I was being sarcastic. Sorry you missed it.
