NEWTON, Mass. -- Police are looking for a man wanted for attacking an 18-year-old woman at a bus stop last week.

The woman told police she was waiting for a bus at the intersection of Centre and Church Streets around 5:30 p.m. on October 12 when a man pulled up in a car and asked her to get in.

Here’s an idea. When you make a decision to do something stupid, you have to weigh the consequences. For instance, if you have sex with a stranger, you might get an STD or AIDS or crabs or a baby or get accused of rape. It’s the price you pay for being an idiot. Think of child support when you nailed a stranger as a Stupid Tax.

So propositioning a (possibly underage) girl just might get you arrested. That fine is your Stupid Tax

Appy, I wasn’t endorsing that guy’s behavior. I think it is boorish. You cite several possible consequences, all of which are plausible, except for the last one: getting arrested. My original question was about where the line is: whether it was the proposition or the putting hands on a (non-sexual) area of the body that made this an attack or assault. I think the physical contact is a reasonable dividing line between mere boorishness and criminality. Your position seems to be that merely asking an unwelcome question (one time) justifies arrest. Suppose the question wasn’t about sex but about, say, buying some product I am trying to sell. Would it still be an arrest-worthy action?

Arrest can happen when you act like an idiot. That’s just part of the consequences. The way to avoid arrest is to not do stupid things. If you have sex with a woman you do not know, you cannot be guaranteed that she is not a nut who will accuse you of rape. She will have all the evidence she needs to make that charge because you gladly gave her the evidence. He’s an idiot who must pay the consequences for his stupidity. That’s just the way it is and it is especially true if you are stupid AND rich.

If a man has sex with a woman and she gets pregnant and she nails him for child support, it’s not my fault. It’s HIS fault. He did something stupid.

If the product you are trying sell is your dick, yeah, you might have to pay the Stupid Tax.
