W.H.: Cheney failed on Afghanistan By: Carol E. Lee October 22, 2009 01:25 PM EST

A day after former Vice President Dick Cheney charged the Obama administration with "dithering" over its strategy for the war in Afghanistan, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs returned fire with guns blazing.

"What Vice President Cheney calls dithering, President Obama calls his solemn responsibility to the men and women in uniform," Gibbs said Thursday. "I think we've all seen what happens when somebody doesn't take that responsibility seriously."

Calling Cheney's comment "curious," Gibbs attacked the Bush administration for allegedly taking years to provide the support necessary for the war effort in Afghanistan.

"I think it's pretty safe to say that the vice president was, for seven years, not focused on Afghanistan," Gibbs said. "Even more curious given the fact that an increase in troops sat on desks in this White House, including the vice president's, for more than eight months."

Cheney offered his dim assessment of the Obama administration's approach to Afghanistan at a Wednesday dinner hosted by the Center for Security Policy, where the former vice president was present with the group's Keeper of the Flame award.

"Having announced his Afghanistan strategy last March, President Obama now seems afraid to make a decision, and unable to provide his commander on the ground with the troops he needs to complete his mission," Cheney said. "The White House must stop dithering while America’s armed forces are in danger. Make no mistake: Signals of indecision out of Washington hurt our allies and embolden our adversaries. Waffling, while our troops on the ground face an emboldened enemy, endangers them and hurts our cause."

"What Vice President Cheney calls dithering, President Obama calls his solemn responsibility to the men and women in uniform," Gibbs said Thursday.

That's funny, because the men and women in uniform don't see it that way.

Good Lord.... the WH amateurs just don't know how to keep their mouths shut, do they? Now they're getting into yet another public debate with Cheney, once again under conditions that are decidedly in Cheney's favor. And once again Cheney's gonna come out ahead. Hell of a way to run a national debate, but it's better than no debate at all.

These destroyers could care less about debate, they ha ha on them that supposedly won will get their collective clocks cleaned. They exist on borrowed time along with any and all who vote for and fund this LUNACY... The Heavenly Father promised.

While I suppose a case could be made that the Bush administration ignored Afghanistan after overthrowing the government and then concentrating on Iraq, I feel they actually helped Afghanistan by the war in Iraq because it forced Al Qaeda and the Taliban to split their forces and resources in a ywo front war. When the insurgency in Iraq increased dramatically, the violence in Afghanistan decreased until after the troop surge when the violence started to spike again because we turned the war in Iraq around. But now there is violence again to a small degree and which may be increasing again in Iraq as well as ubcreasing violence and terrorist activity in both Pakistan and Afghanistan. Meanwhile the only war Obummer cares about is the war on Fox News. If Obummer does not send more troops per McChrystal’s request, he will lose the war and in effect be a traitor to our military.

Looks like Dick Cheney did exactly what he set out to do, lit a fire under Zer0 and thugs so they’d bring more attention to their sorry selves. LOL!

This regime believes its success consists of trashing those who did anything before they did. They need not accomplish anything whatsoever. As long as they can release a press blurb that Bush and Cheney failed, then they succeed. Just bizarre.

Not unexpected from these children - they make the Clinton White House staff look like wise elders. Gates and crew should increase their Pamprin dosages and realize they are not qualified to shine Dick Cheney’s shoes.

“When will this white house start fighting terrorism and stop acting like little children who have been called a name?”

Gees, give them a break. Where have you been? Don’t you know they already got their hands full with Fox, Beck and mopping floors?

Is the entire White House flooded with estrogen?

Yes. And it's deepest in the men's room.

This is far worse than mudslinging and partisan politics and Obama attacking the last administration.

Obama is treading on dangerous ground and Cheney is trying to warn him. But Obama acts like it is a game of partisan bickering.

Obama is aiding and abetting the enemy which is an impeachable offense. it is so unprecedented for a POTUS would a call for impeachment suffice?

Gibbs is not an idiot, which means he is a opportunistic sycophant, that believes the rest of us are so damn gullible he can say anything

I will flat out cheer when this “man” falls from his perceived grace.
