73% of GOP Voters Say Congressional Republicans Have Lost Touch With Their Base

President Obama told an audience at a Democratic Party fundraiser Wednesday night that Republicans often “do what they’re told,” but GOP voters don’t think their legislators listen enough to them. Just 15% of Republicans who plan to vote in 2012 state primaries say the party’s representatives in Congress have done a good job of representing Republican values.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 73% think Republicans in Congress have lost touch with GOP voters from throughout the nation. Twelve percent (12%) are undecided. These numbers are basically unchanged from a survey in late April. Republican women are nearly twice as likely as men to say their representatives in Congress have done a good job of representing GOP values. Younger voters tend to be less critical than their elders. Thirty-one percent (31%) of likely GOP primary voters rate economic issues as the priority in determining how they will vote, followed by 25% who see national security issues that way. Fiscal issues are most important for 15%, while 12% cite domestic issues and seven percent (7%) cultural issues.

Nationally, 29% of Republican voters say former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee is their pick to represent the GOP in the 2012 presidential campaign, while 24% prefer former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and 18% like former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin

73% sounds low to me!

But will they listen? Or do they despise their own constituents more than they want to regain the majority? I would think the 2010 elections are the GOP’s to lose - and lose they very well might.

The problem is Republicans never do what Obama tells them to do.

Could not agree more!

I happen to live in John Boehner’s district and after watching him operate as minority leader I have come to the conclusion John is not up to the job. He is devoid of meaningful initiatives and operates in a totally reactionary mode to the opposition. I would hope that the house repubs will finally pick up on what's going on in the country and at least elect Mike Pence as the minority leader. Give John the extra time to work on his tan and his handicap.

The RINO’s are a happy 27%

GOP leaders will just decide to open that tent

Will the GOP pay any attention to this? No, they like losing too much.

Many of the current Republicans would rather be voted out of office than have a conservative fiscal policy.

Most politicians now are mass believers in the “elite” and think representative government is a bad thing. They want an all-controlling world government that dictates all things, as they believe this will produce a utopia.

And of course, the rest are just thieves.

I have been forced, if I want to participate here in FreeRepublic, to refresh and even learn new, the things that are America and whom did what, when and why?

In short, I've been back in History class for the last ten years and by golly, what a joy it's been.

But THAT is what the politicians are lacking. A continual necesitty to learn and be a part of the Nation of America and her people ..... NOT the political machine and how IT works.

I don't think that's it.

I think that elected officials (in both parties) are so beholden to special interests and the campaign cash they provide that they only serve their constituents interests when those interest come into alignment with the lobbyists. This explains why Obama and the Democrats are taking positions which most Americans, including many Democrats find objectionable. It explains why the Republican did the same thing when they held power. Meanwhile both parties whipsaw the American public.

I apologize for the length, but I hope to get others to follow suit.

This is what I sent to the RNC last night. It may or may not make a difference, but at least I tried.

Tonight I will send this to my congress critters.

Michael Steele:

I have been a republican for many years. I have voted in every election
beginning with the presidential election of 1952 and Dwight D. Eisenhower.

I probably voted before then, but that one is the first I remember.

So let me tell you something about the RNC and where it is going.

The RNC thinks that the republicans in the DC beltway bubble know what is
best for the party and that the tea party people, the Glenn Becks and the
Rush Limbaughs are trouble makers on the fringe right.

Well, you had better get something through your heads. Those folks are
real every day people that have had enough of the “go along to get along”
crowd in the beltway bubble.

If you don't pay attention to them, you are going to lose the congress in
2010 and by 2012 it will all be over.

We are tired of the people in the RNC that think the way to take the
elections is to put more Snowes, Lindsay Grahams, Lamar Alexanders, McCain
and the like in congress. In short, what does the likes of Arlen Specter
do for conservative government?

The events in NY23 illustrate why the republican party is shooting
themselves in the “right” foot. You could pour the cash into the campaign
of the truly conservative candidate and win and end up with someone that is
not a rino.

You have made the same mistake in FL.

I sent, the last week of the election of 2008, $1,000 to Palin believing
that it would go to her. I was distressed to see that it went to the RNC.

I pledged then that I will never ever again give you one penny. I will
donate ONLY to specific candidates and to them personally so that you can
never get your hands on the money to use it has you are in NY23.

I am a resident of NC, not NY, but I watch what the RNC does and it makes
me ill.

Hoffman is the right man. That woman is another Snowe, Graham, Alexander,
rino rino rino.

I can not see why you did not learn from the last election. McCain
energized no one. He would have been 15 points at least worse off had he
not selected Sarah Palin. With his insiders back stabbing her, she still
brought his numbers up.

But did the inside the beltway repubs learn a lesson? No.

You are still hot on Romney.

Sarah Palin goes to some little burg and 20,000 people show up to hear her.

Romney goes to a similar town and the few that show up snore in the
audience.

I happen to be a Palin supporter, but I don't know that she will be the
candidate. It could just as well be Michelle Bachmann, or even some one
who is presently unknown.

But if it is another “go along to get along” or someone who “we can do that
only better”, you can hang it up.

By the way, take me off your mailing list. I will never ever give you one
penny until you start listening to real people, not Newt Gingrich, Romney,
Jeb Bush and the like.

You do not represent me. You represent that element of the republican
party that wants to stay in power even if it means being the “we can do
that only we can do it better”.

Doesn’t matter. The GOP leadership is so elitist that they don’t care what “the little people” (us) think.

Say goodbye to any donations from us, RNC. We’ll support REAL conservatives directly instead, and let your RINO candidates twist in the wind.
