Well, that type of criminal is looking for a quick out anyway...not exactly likely though. Anyone of minimal intelligence would place himself out of distance of anyone he knew was carrying when attempting to commit a crime. Understand your thought process, but almost sure that it is NOT what a criminal would think...(unless desperate needing a quick crack fix)...and even then unlikely.
Also, I agree it should be up to the individual to decide how to carry. This is just my personal preference. It has always worked for me.
