Geraldo Blames Lou Dobbs for Anti-Hispanic Sentiment in U.S.
Newsbusters ^ | 10/24/2009 | Noel Sheppard

Geraldo Rivera on Thursday lambasted Lou Dobbs for the outspoken CNN host's views concerning illegal immigration.

Speaking at a luncheon sponsored by El Diario La Prensa NY, Rivera disgracefully said, "Lou Dobbs is almost single-handedly responsible for creating, for being the architect of the young-Latino-as-scapegoat for everything that ails this country."

Rivera also told the audience that he had spoken to his boss, and was assured Dobbs was not coming to Fox (video embedded below the fold with partial transcript):

"One of the aspects of our reality in the United States now is the defamatory tone of the immigration debate and how that immigration debate has slandered an entire race of people. It has been reckless beyond imagining, it has been reckless in a way that is beyond precedent."

Wait a minute. Beyond precedent? Does Rivera have no recollection of slavery in America or the Holocaust in Germany? But I digress:

"Lou Dobbs, a man who was an accomplished journalist, and who left to go and start his own venture in the digital media, having to do with space, I believe, and then came back to CNN, and nobody was watching his program. He discovered that one of the way to get people to watch was to make of the image of a young Latino trying to get into this country a profoundly negative icon. Lou Dobbs is almost single-handedly responsible for creating, for being the architect of the young-Latino-as-scapegoat for everything that ails this country. [...]

It has been one of the most frustrating experiences of my professional life to watch as a good portion of the American people began to listen and believe that immigrants were responsible for crime in this country, responsible for bringing terror to this country, responsible for stealing jobs, responsible for effecting in a very negative way the American way of life. [...]

It is something that we absolutely said, "No mas" during the election of 2008...It's why Obama is elected now. He is the first, I maintain, Latino president. He's the first brown president. Why? He could be, and he looks Puerto Rican. And the, and the, the point is he would not be president but for the Latino vote and the Latino vote was for the first time in my lifetime an expression of a community understanding its responsibilities, getting up, going to the polling place, and saying, 'No mas.' "

Wow! Geraldo thinks Latinos got Obama elected. Unfortunately, the numbers dictate otherwise.

After all, Obama beat McCain by 8.5 million votes, but he "only" got about 4 million more Latino votes. By contrast, Obama got almost 15 million more African-American votes than McCain.

As such, claiming Latinos got Obama elected is absurd. But once again, I digress:

No more of these lies, no more of this slander, no more of this stereotyping. I can tell you proudly, when this man [Dobbs] was widely rumored to be coming to my network, I called my boss couple of weeks ago, and he said it's absolutely untrue. Lou Dobbs is not coming to Fox News. He belongs at CNN if they can justify his presence there that's their problem.

Wow!

Geraldo is an @ss of mega proportions. Hell, I’d rather Fox put Colmes back on instead. At least Colmes wasn’t pretending to be other than what he IS.

Geraldo Rivera is a Hispano-Racist. Of course, he made these comments at a segregated Hispano-Racist organization.

His comments about Dobbs are not only ignorant...but endemic of the growing racist element in some of the Hispanic community. I am tired of the growing Ku Klux Klanning by Hispanics against Americans who value their citizenship and country

Fox needs to fire Jerry Rivers for his outright racism. But, Fox will probably keep him on because they mostly endorse Illegal Alien Amnesty and other Hispano-Racist agenda

(NOTE: This autthor is wrong...obama got 2/3 of Hispanic vote, while pro-illegal alien McCain got only 1/3. Obama won more Hispanic votes even though the GOP ran a Hispano-Racist

What really chaps my arse is the fact that it is allowed to take place within walking distance of the San Jacinto battle ground where Texans fought the mexicans and defeated them and sent them packing.

REMEMBER THE ALAMO!

“I can’t for the life of me figure why his contract was renewed by FNC, his ratings have to be in the tank.”

He is probably at Fox to add a little diversity to the network. I can’t think of any other reason to keep him around.

"Lou Dobbs is almost single-handedly responsible for creating, for being the architect of the young-Latino-as-scapegoat for everything that ails this country."

Theoretically, I suppose this is possible--but only among people who have no contact with Latinos.

For the vast majority of the population that does interact with them, opinions will be the result of personal experience, not what someone else says.

This is human nature. If you have repeated positive interaction with someone, you arent likely to be swayed by negative comments of a third party. Of course the reverse is also true.

Most Hispanic-Americans think of themselves as American first and Hispanic second. Geraldo Rivera thinks of himself as Hispanic, period.

Geraldo knows he’s got a club to beat Americans who stand against illegal immigration but its worn thin. If he weren’t on Fox no one would hear his bs.

Make no mistake about this aging Puerto Rican trouble-making bigot. Given half the chance he’ll start a fist fight.

I guess he missed 9/11 when 19 “immigrants” brought terror to America.

Better yet, give Lou geraldo’s time slot and get rid of jerry rivers. My neighbors told me jerry was from Tucson, AZ, not sure if true.

If bringing Lou Dobbs onto Fox will hasten Geraldo’s exit, then there is yet one more reason for doing so.

Their official motto is: “Por La Raza- todo. Fuera de La Raza- nada” (”For The Race- everything-Outside The Race- nothing”).

One thing—we can’t say all these scumbags are not telling us loud and clear—and showing us with their actions where they’re coming from. It’s our fault if we ignore, deny, or submit to it.

“Have not noticed an “anti-Hispanic” sentiment. Anti-illegal alien, yes. Anti-Hispanic, no.”

When I go to a store and see labeling on every item in Spanish, I start to get a little anti-Hispanic. When I make a call and have to press 2 for English, I get aggravated. When I see commercials on network TV in Spanish, I get pissed off. After all they have their own TV channel- Tellemundo or something like that. They have their own awards show for Hispanics. There’s not one for whites. Yeah I’m kinda anti Hispanic.
