Crackdowns on illegal immigrants and other law enforcement efforts are driving gangs out of Northern Virginia and into Maryland and the District, a report released Monday concluded. "Many gang members from Northern Virginia are moving or driving to Prince George's and other Maryland counties, into the District of Columbia or further south and west into Virginia to avoid dealing with police departments that are unrelenting in their efforts to keep gangs under control," authorities wrote in the Northern Virginia Regional Gang Task Force report.
The report said the task force's success is the result of Virginia law enforcement's use of anti-gang policing measures, including the referring of suspected illegal immigrants to federal authorities. Since the task force was created in 2003, it has arrested 952 gang members, more than 40 percent of whom were illegal immigrants, the report said.
Experts say jurisdictions such as Montgomery County, where police are told to look away from immigration violations, have become safe havens for gangs.
The law enforcement group hired independent reviewers to develop the "Comprehensive Gang Assessment," which studied the effect of the task force's efforts between 2003 and 2008 in Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William, Loudoun and Fauquier counties, as well as Alexandria. The task force has brought federal and local law enforcement agencies together, and the report credits it with helping drive down the region's violent crime rate by 17 percent over the six years of the study....

It worked in Prince William. Wonder if Fairfax will follow?
Northern Virginia gangs by the numbers:
5,000: estimated number of gang members
80-100: number of gangs and cliques
3,000: members of El Salvador-based MS-13
25: percentage of black gang members
66: percentage of Hispanic gang members
80: percentage of gang crimes committed by youths 16 years old and younger
Why do I doubt that. The malign influence of that left-wing crook, Gerald Connolly, still holds sway in Fairfax.
GOOD!! - Keep going!! I’ve been tempted at times to give them free rides to the state border if they’d like. Maryland can find something to do with them - probably set them up in nice digs and teach them how to pick ‘D’ on a ballot.
did Arizona’s Sheriff Arapaio do some on the job training in Virginia?
John McCain, in his Amnesty bill he wrote with Ted Kennedy, explicitly called for the legalization of illegal alien gang members. When a more patriotic member of the Senate questioned this, McCain became enraged and used the F-word.

Just don’t call it treason, and the “honorable” senators can handle it.
The guys in Prince William County are pretty good, but the whole region could use a Sheriff Joe on the job. I would be satisfied if we could just chase every last one of them to Maryland.
next time I drive through I will stop in Prince William County for a hotel room or dinner.
Imagine that!
Enforce the law and criminals leave the jurisdiction.
Immigration (especially illegal immigration) makes us stronger. Or so we’re told.
I don’t think you’re talking about IQ 150 PhDs coming over.
Wait, what should a crackdown on immigration have to do with driving gangs out of NW Va? According to our GOP presidential canidate they're just here doing the jobs Americans won't do. It's all so confusing. /sarc
Does this have anything to do with the fact that one of their chief enablers will soon be leaving the governor’s office?
Naw, they’re too busy cracking down on naked guys in kitchens.
Any more when I see/hear McCain up to his old tricks I use the F-word myself.
yay!!!
I had a boss who lived in Montgomery Co. Md.
He ws/is a big handwringing liberal who hired lots of illegals to work in his pretzel stores.
But having them actually live by him... I’m sure he is not pleased.
What percentage voted Democrat?
