People have been leaving New York State for thirty years...I left in 1981...Only people left are welfare and government workers...I think the rich are the last to go for some reason...I moved to Colorado and the Californians we moving in then...they ruined it...There are only a couple of good states left...I’m not telling

When I was in eighth grade in 1964, one of my Dad’s good friends lived on Texas Lane in Ithaca. The address sign on his mailbox read “Taxes Lane.” I was always commenting on the misspelling, but the elders would simply grin and say I would understand someday why he spelled it that way. Even then I remember the elders constantly complaining about all the money that flowed from upstate to fund the NYC cesspool.

Some things never change.

I hear that!

Speaking of "good states", I've just got to say that y'all don't want to move to Texas. It's got blistering heat in the Summer, and icicles in the Winter. Fall is like ten minutes long and all the leaves fall off the trees. Spring is gorgeous, but like Fall, it only lasts for about ten minutes.

Folks down here are ornery, and they talk funny. Everyone drives pick-up trucks with gun racks in the back window, and they ain't opposed to pulling that shotgun out on any outsider who doesn't understand how things are done down here.

The bugs are bigger than cats, and there's fifteen different kinds of snakes all over the place. They've got that weird armadillo thing here, too.

Oh yeah.... all the food has jalapeno peppers in it. Don't come. Stay put, or move somewhere else, if you know what's good for you!

IMO I live in one of them, but it’s not because we’re a rich state. But better poor and free than a well-fed slave. Also I like that we’re off most people’s radar.

That old movie Escape From New York comes to mind...pretty soon we can just throw up some walls around it to control the lib kooks.
