RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The mastermind of the 2002 Washington, DC-area sniper attacks will die by lethal injection next month, Virginia officials said Tuesday. John Allen Muhammad declined to choose between lethal injection and electrocution, so under state law the method defaults to lethal injection, Virginia Department of Corrections spokesman Larry Traylor said.
Muhammad is scheduled to be executed Nov. 10 for the October 2002 slaying of Dean Harold Meyers at a Manassas gas station during a string of shootings.
The three-week killing spree in October 2002 left 10 dead in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

He’d live on and on in Maryland had John Ashcroft not taken control of the prisoner and moved him from Maryland to Virginia for prosecution.
Doug Gansler, the current AG in Maryland, was the DA in Montgomery County at the time, and ruled out bringing capital charges to the sniper and the minor sniper.
His flowery quote was something along the lines of “we don’t kill children in Maryland”, or some such nonsense.
Ashcroft, to his everlasting credit, had enough of this liberal and made sure the DC sniper landed in a capital punishment state.
And now he will pay for his crimes.
Law enforcement in that region really looked bad, if memory serves, and it was non-police citizens that basically captured this guy if I recall.
I remember the police chief in that case was an absolute bozo.

I think that all charges should be dropped and Mr. Muhammad should be released immediately from prison. Then he should be shot in the head with while standing at the curb waiting for his "freedom" bus.
My question is ...why did it take so long? Seven years time from the cowardly murders to execution. One year would have been plenty of time to hear appeals, etc, if the justice system was working properly.
