I seem to remember that you should only eat oysters in a month with an R in it.
Several people have brought that up. There are different theories about that. One is that the rain in the summer causes lots of fresh water to run into the bays (note that summer months don’t have “r” in them). The fresh water promotes bacteria growth that contaminates the oysters. The other theory is that this is a wive’s tale that was made obsolete with the invention of refrigeration. I hope that’s not too much information.
I don’t necessarily believe there is anything wrong with radiated food either, but Southern Fish and Oyster, where I buy my oysters almost right off the boat, does not have the capabilities to do that, and I don’t think it’s necessary. According to the article, oysters kill 15 people a year, most of whom I would bet already have underlying health problems.
They probably don't, but the equipment to do so certainly exists, and much of it is designed for "deep field use" (i.e. right off the boat) kind of robustness.

I agree. With that death rate, this "problem" should be WAAAYYYY down the priority list. But that sort of implies that political animals have some sort of common sense. Most of the evidence says they don't.
