Obama unhappy with criticism of his NYC date night

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama says only once since Jan. 20 has White House life annoyed him.

It was the Saturday in May when, trying to be a good husband, he kept a campaign promise to take his wife, Michelle, to New York after the election for one of their "date nights" - dinner and a Broadway play.

Conservative commentators and Republican officials criticized him for doing so.

"People made it into a political issue," Obama told The New York Times Magazine for an article about the Obamas' marriage, appearing in the Nov. 1 issue. The article was posted on the Times' Web site on Wednesday.

"If I weren't president, I would be happy to catch the shuttle with my wife to take her to a Broadway show, as I had promised her during the campaign, and there would be no fuss and no muss and no photographers," he said. "That would please me greatly."

Presidents, however, don't travel by any means other than secure government aircraft or vehicles.

Obama added: "The notion that I just couldn't take my wife out on a date without it being a political issue was not something I was happy with."

The article explores the effects of the presidency on the couple's 17-year union, and revisits well-documented tension between them in earlier years as Obama pursued his political career in Illinois, leaving Mrs. Obama largely home alone in Chicago with their daughters.

Whew! Where to start?

1. Obama and Michelle were rightly criticized because their little "Date Night" to NYC was not in conjunction with any official travel. It cost the taxpayers millions, because it isn't just the cost of the Gulfstream that flew him there. Everytime a President moves, it involves massive airlift that is being used for 2 wars. The White House Communications Agency has to move, and that involves an entire C-17 cargo aircraft. Limos, security, staffers, etc all add up to a boondogle. If GW Bush did this, the MSM would have crucified him.

2. The Obama are clearly abusing their Presidential travel privledges. More Obama strap hangers and staffers went to Europe (on two occasions) than any other President visit in HISTORY! Let's not even mention flying in pizzas from Chicago, trips to the Grand Canyon, Marth's Vinyard....oh...and what else? I know I am leaving some of them out.

3. Lastly, Obama probably has a bad memory of the night because there were rumors (just rumors mind you) that Michelle had been drinking heavily that night.

Is Michelle Obama a Drunk?

4. Where the heck has the MSM been on these "well-documented tensions between them in earlier year?"

Where? Where has the reporting been on that? What "tensions" do reporters know about?

He has spent more time on his golf game than his Afghan policy.

What a sad, sorry little whiner he is. If he didn't want to be the de-facto political leader of the entire free world, then he didn't have to run for the Democrat nomination. If he didn't want every arch of his eyebrow to be a political issue, he didn't have to accept the nomination.

Lucky him. Pretty much every night since Jan. 20 has annoyed me.

So why didn’t he take her on a date after the election but prior to his inauguration? He would have kept a promise and not had access to all the amenities that he says just can’t be helped.

BS

"People made it into a political issue"

Haven't we been told by the Left since the '60s that everything is political? Live by the sword, die by the sword.
