President Barack Obama traveled overnight to receive the remains of fallen soldiers whose bodies were returning from Afghanistan.
Obama made a midnight trip to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, the first stop back in the U.S. for soldiers who are killed in combat, where he awaited an Air Force C-17 transporting the remains of 15 U.S. soldiers and three Drug Enforcement Agency agents killed in Afghanistan this week.
Obama met at a chapel on-base with family members of the fallen Americans, and boarded the C-17 for a short ceremony to witness the "dignified transfer" of the soldiers' remains.
The previously unannounced trip comes as the president mulls how to proceed with strategy in Afghanistan, and on the heels of the deadliest month in that country.
Joining the president for the transfer were Attorney General Eric Holder, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz, the administrator of the DEA, as well as several other military officials.
Obama stayed at the base until 4:05 in the morning, according to a pool report, and arrived back at the White House at 4:45 a.m.
Looks like he’s been practicing his salute at home in the mirror.
God bless our troops.
Former President George W. Bush spent lots of time with grieving military families but never went to Dover to meet the remains coming off the cargo plane. Obama did so with the weight of knowing he may soon send more troops off to war.
Yea, that sorry evil George Bush, how dare he fritter away that valuable time with those grieving families. He never endured "the weight of knowing he may soon send more troops off to war" like Hussein Øbama The Magnificent is doing. Just look at the photos taken at three something in the morning where Øbama The Magnificent is seeing the real cost of the war by golly!
Yep, that no good Bush never saw that, right?
Little Barry, do you even have a single clue how this burns the heart and soul of REAL American Citizens?
Just a hint of a passing wisp of a random thought of how absolutely pathetic you really are?
He should make a personal visit to Afghanistan and face the troops he’s abandoning. I’d be impressed with that.
Had one of those been one of my family members now serving, I would have spit on him - he does not belong withing football fields of any of our troops....
he is the TIC, unfit to be called CIC
I can see the only thing that will come out of this in the press is, “why wasn’t the coffin crew more diversified?”
Of course, President Bush actually worked at governing the nation and would not use fallen soldiers as a photographic prop. He may very well HAVE gone to Dover - he just didn’t turn it into a press junket.
All this was to Barry was a photo op and a chance to take AF-1 out for another spin.
As a mother, I would only have met with him one on one!
We could make it a great photo opp.
He traveled at night so that he wouldn’t miss his game of golf.
Ours or theirs?
..at a forward fire base....
“Former President George W. Bush spent lots of time with grieving military families but never went to Dover to meet the remains coming off the cargo plane. Obama did so with the weight of knowing he may soon send more troops off to war.”
So sickening how the media blatantly felates and kisse’s Little Lord Fauntleroy’s ass.
The most discusting thing about this trip is that he actually stopped at Andrews AFB to switch from Marine One to Air Force One for the 75 mile hop to Dover! That stop would have added time to the trip rather than just continuing on to Dover in the helicopter. Not to mention the added $250,000 to the junket. Let’s see, more cost + less efficient = Obama. The ONLY reason to switch aircraft would be so that more press could attend.
“I just backspaced over a bad word.”
He should; The Kenyan Idiot Killed them.
The individual to the Kenyan communist's left needs to practice his. It's a sad day when a POS like Obowma has a better looking salute than you do.
Asshat.
He would not make a pimple on a real soldiers arse. Obama is the one person in this world that I really do hate.
