Silence of the Lambs - - Part 5,432
Speak of Sin; Land in Jail
Welcome to Post Christian America
A Christian evangelist who was once arrested, incarcerated, and charged under Pennsylvania's hate crimes law says the federal hate crimes bill that has been signed into law by President Obama is the most dangerous laws in the history of the United States.
The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which was signed into law yesterday, creates additional penalties for violent crimes motivated by the victim's "actual or perceived" gender, "gender identity," sexual orientation, or disability.
Michael Marcavage, director of Philadelphia-based Repent America, was one of 11 Christians who tossed into jail and charged with a hate crime for carrying Bible verse banners and preaching at a 2004 homosexual pride event in Philadelphia.
The charges were later dismissed -- and in 2008, the state's Supreme Court ruled the law had been passed illegally by the Pennsylvania legislature.
Mr. Marcavage maintains the new federal hate crimes law is yet another move by the federal government to "silence Christians."

First you say that this law, "creates additional penalties for violent crimes motivated by the victim's [whatever]."
Then you claim that, "Michael Marcavage, director of Philadelphia-based Repent America, was ... charged with a hate crime for carrying Bibles.."
If a hate crime requires violence, what violence was alleged in the charge?
Verbal violence.
I didn’t write that.....however, the entire piece of legislation does not make sense.
Again.....I just post the stuff, I didn’t write the article or the law...and Obama rarely visits the Free Republic.
Peace
What’s their definition of ‘violence’? Perhaps just holding a Bible in a manner that a hapless queer might see it is considered “violence.”
Can I still do that?
I should not have posted that! Someone just threw in this round thing that (*cough* cough*) has some stuff spewing out of it. Gads! It's tear gas! And people with guns and ACORN shirts are breaking in through the door and windows! They slid down ropes from helicopters! Oh no!!!!
Wew! It's ok! That was kind of scary though! I thought I was in trouble but they were only here for the Census. All they did was hold me down and ask me questions about who lived in the house. Before they left they gave me some brochures. One on the census, one on health care and another brochure titled "How to Make Money with Underage Ho's".

Making a Gay feel uncomfortable by say, wearing a Knights of Columbus jacket or hat would be considered violence.

I HATE this new law!
Can I still do that?
BUSTED!
I can’t wait for the libs to enforce this law against Muslims.
Oh, I wasn’t calling on you to answer... I was just responding to what I read. :)
It seems crazy.
Muslims do not hate...they merely exercise their religious “rights”.
It is indeed crazy!
If that law includes disability, then Sarah has cause to bring charges against the twerp ex-Bristol boyfriend for what he said about Trig.
While you have the Constitutional right to speak out against gays, you do not have the right to physically attack a gay person.
However, gays do have the Constitutional right to carry a firearm, and should defend themselves accordingly if they are physically attacked by someone who is disturbed about the gay lifestyle.
