Fugitive son of Detroit Imam arrested in Windsor

The fugitive son of an Imam shot dead by U.S. federal agents Wednesday was arrested Thursday in downtown Windsor and in the custody Canadian border authorities, the FBI said in a statement.

Mujahid Carswell, 30, also known as Mujahid Abdullah, was arrested by RCMP officers at about 1 p.m. Thursday without incident after police blocked off a downtown street and surrounded a house with a tactical team. He was witnessed being whisked away in a prisoner transport van and is currently in the custody of the Canada Border Services Agency on immigration violations.

Mr. Carswell is the oldest son of Lubqman Ameen Abdullah, the imam of a Detroit mosque who was killed after an exchange of gunfire with FBIagents during the raid on a warehouse in Dearborn, Mich.

Mr. Abdullah, also known as Christopher Thomas, and 10 others, including the three fugitives, were named in a federal complaint unsealed Wednesday that alleges conspiracy to commit theft from interstate shipments, mail fraud to obtain the proceeds of arson, illegal possession and sale of firearms and tampering with motor vehicle identification numbers.

Mr. Carswell was a member of the security Sura team that guards the Masjid Al-Haqq mosque in Detroit where his father was the imam. The federal complaint, obtained by Canwest News Service, says that according to an informant, Mr. Carswell moved to Windsor and was living two blocks from the tunnel border crossing and goes to a large mosque in the city.

Mr. Carswell also trains about 60 children, ages eight to 18, in martial arts at the mosque, the federal complaint said.

We probably won’t be told, either.

I think they run all these guys at the border. Unless he had false ID. If the FBI was after him, it would have hit at the border.

It didn't take long (one day) to roll him up in Windsor anyway.

Thanks for trying to reassure me. I've been across the border there, and believe me, it's not as secure as we hope it is.

OTOH, This guy is on top of the situation, so I don't need to worry.....

(Yes, I'm mocking us, but being a Canadian, I'm allowed to!)

Might have went “Down South” before the S**T hit the fan, or used a fake ID.

Two more to go.

Just to bring you up to date, friend. This guy was hustled back over the border, TO YOUR COUNTRY WHERE HE IS A "CITIZEN". They didn't even bother to extradite him, just shipped him back.

Also, FYI, he was granted bail by a US federal judge.

Don't accuse Canada of harboring terrorists when your "citizens" come over here to hide out after committing crimes.

Canada has plenty I’m sure - as evidenced by past catches at the border. There are also likely some indigenous Calypso Louie types hanging out in Canada. Given that Canada let this guy into Canada is clearly evidence that border security into Canada is less than perfect.

Sure, Canadian border security is less than perfect. But when a US citizen presents himself at the border for entry and there are no wants, no warrants, no warnings, chances are he gets in. You would want it some other way?

SM, the last two perps were rolled up Saturday morning about a mile from my house, in homes very close to a large mosque (quel suprise).

Here is the funny part. The first guy, the imam's son, was sent back to the US, he wasn't even extradited, just bundled back over the border, and released on bail! The other two are being held without bail in Windsor, pending extradition.

Update

"Khan and Alsahli are to face extradition hearings on Monday, said Windsor Police Staff Sgt. Dave Kigar."

Hmmmm, sounds like two Canadian "Citizens", probably not native born.

I'll follow this and let you know about their immigration status. They were arrested within 100 yards of a large mosque.

They might turn out to be "Trudeau Canadians".

I still don't know why the first guy didn't get an extradition hearing, even if he was a US citizen. Very strange. Stranger still that a US federal judge immediately released him on bail.

I hope it was something like, spill it out now, or you will end up in the gay ward of the Wayne County Jail.

Another FR posting

"Tahawwur Hussain Rana, 48, a Canadian national originally from Pakistan,"

More grist for the mill.

Since neither the US nor Canada want to seriously try to control those who enter the countries, the border between does tend to occasionally ID a few of the bad actors.

Well, I guess we can finally agree on something. I would just point out that these two guys travelled to the US many, many times and were not picked up by ICE.

At best these guys are "Trudeau Canadians". Not the type of immigrant either country would really want. The bottom line is, because of close co-operation among law enforcement on BOTH sides of the border, this cell was quickly rolled up. Trust me, Canada is no haven for terrorists.

“Windsor, Ontario: Police chief apologizes to Muslims for offending them during FBI arrests”

SNIPPET: “Now can we get an apology from the Muslim community for aiding and abetting jihadists? “Windsor police chief Gary Smith apologizes to Islamic community for ‘offending’ their beliefs during FBI arrests,” from The Windsor Star, November 12 (thanks to Simeon):

WINDSOR, Ont. — Windsor police chief Gary Smith has apologized to members of Windsor’s Islamic community for offending their beliefs after officers arresting two FBI suspects at gunpoint patted down one of their wives.
“It was never the intention for Windsor police officers to offend or embarrass the families of our Islamic community,” writes Smith in a press release issued by police this morning. “The actions taken did cause embarrassment and did offend their religious beliefs. I sincerely apologize to the families and the Islamic community.”...

A review of the incident highlighted the need for additional “cultural sensitivity training,” said the release, and Dr. Murad Aktas has been tapped to provide it. Details have yet to be worked out.”
