I don’t think, Obama has encountered an executive decision with as many potential negative ramifications as this one. If he raises the troop level his base may turn on him and if he leaves the troops hanging his presidency will continue to weaken. The driving calculus is not the security of the United States and support of the troops but how to win the next election. He would do well to look at Iraq and note that the surge worked under the right leadership, but victory may not be in his vocabulary.

Pres. Obama met today with the Joint Chiefs of Staff for just the second time since taking office.

That's unbelievable. I can't imagine that even in peace time.
