Yet while our political parties increasingly divide themselves along ideological lines, those line are not always straight. Indeed, according to the latest Gallup poll, more than one in five (22 percent) Democrats describe themselves as conservative.

I won’t refer to myself as a republican again until the party comes back to it’s collective senses. I will remain a Conservative.

A lot of conservatives have simply abandoned the GOP. Most self-described Independents are conservatives and their votes are up for grabs. But both dinosaur parties don't get them and don't realize they no longer represent the American people.

Phony bastards in the GOP campaign as conservatives then fall in with the liberals. John McCain,Linsey Graham, Kay Baily Hutchinson. I have voted for the last one. I would rather see a liberal democrat than a liberal Republican.

I'd rather have an enemy that I know is my enemy rather than an enemy who tells me he's my friend....

If every American self-described as Republican identified with true conservatism, nearly half of all Americans would support the GOP.

There, fixed it.

I think the GOP lost it when they let the libertarian anarcho-capitalists start doing their thinking for them.

parsy, who has been hammering on this for years

Looks like we've got a third party whether we like it or not...I refuse to call myself a Republican these days. I'm a Conservative.

We haven’t been dealing with real republicans OR democratics for at least two or three decades.

These commies in DC today are not democrats, and these republicans are not conservatives.

Both parties have been fused by the Marxists, or may as well say commies.

Only commies could have brought this great nation so near destruction!

I think the only way forward for conservatism is by victory in the primary system. I see a lot of potential for new attention and energy in the primaries.

Hoffman race is a special case, where there effectively was no primary, the candidate was chosen by party officials.

If a conservative third party were to run candidates drawing a significant portion of the votes nationally, it would only serve to gut conservative governmental power. George Soros and leftists of all kinds would be eager to write a big check to help it along.
