Does Your Area have a Shortage of Flu and H1N1 Vaccines? (Vanity and information gathering)

I am just checking to see how the vaccines have been made available throughout the country. I have seen posts on the site saying that they are in short supply in some areas and other posters are saying there are no problems getting them.

I would like it if you could tell us your state and what is the status of the vaccine availablilty in the area.

I want to make sure that the vaccines have not been made a political football. That we havent yet turned into an African kleptocratcy.

Ethrane,

Agree with your appraisal on H1N1.

In Washington state the H1N1 death rate for seniors is very low.

However, the six child deaths in Washington last week struck mostly children with pre-existing health issues, not healthy children, as you noted in your comments.

Like you, I was troubled by the rush to bring H1N1 vaccine to the market, plus, I lived through the 1950’s, so hopefully I have some immunity.

What I’ve noticed, purely anecdotaly (?sp) of course, is that the more healthy among us generate a greater immune response to the virus which is not necessarily a good thing. The bodies response to a immunological challenge determines organ system effects. I am not telling anyone NOT to get the vaccine....there is not enough evidence to support anything along those lines. It is a new vaccine (using accepted vaccine production methods) and the efficacy is unknown.

You are correct, perhaps an earlier version of the H1N1 virus exposed us older folks previously and that may be protective....no one knows.

Well glad to see someone is speaking from the same world as me about government being criminal enterprise. But I do have an overwhelming intellectual question on the H1N1 vaccine after reading everything out there I can read. An explanation of why swine flu seems to hit the young the most says that a large percentage of the older population have been exposed to it through the years and that it has been in the vaccines in previous years. But doesn’t that raise the question if all of this were sincere, why wouldn’t they test people to see if they had previous exposure to H1N1. That is the missing question to me except that requires a belief that all of this is sincere when it is absolutely not as illustrated by the continual cries of pandemic and level 6 alert by the WHO going back 6 months.

But my main thing was not specific toward you as I wanted to cite NaturalNews.com and Mercola.com as good websites to read about nutrition and self-health. I think the swine flu hysteria is an opportunity to show people how we have been lied to all these years, not that the economy and the talk of immaculate recovery isn’t doing the same thing.

Why wouldn’t they test everyone for prior exposure?

One, even a subtle change in a virus’s structure can make alarming changes in virulence..and virus’s change constantly. Does prior exposure to a ‘similar’ virus confer immunity? No one knows that at this point.

Second, can you imagine the cost and administrative nightmare of testing hundreds of millions of people for prior exposure? The cost of doing that would probably exceed the cost of vaccintaing everyone (but that’s just a guess).

Viruses are rampant, varied and ever changing...our knowledge about them is NOT complete, nor is our ability to determine by testing who may or may not be vulnerable.

As much as I distrust government, I do not routinely assume that there is always some ulterior motive to what government tries to do. Additionally, the information on Naturalnews.com and the Mercola site are no more reliable than other more traditional medical sites. Take it for what it is worth, but I am not a big believer in self-health/natural medicine....but then again, as I said, I am a MD.

I want to make sure that the vaccines have not been made a political football. That we havent yet turned into an African kleptocratcy.

Multiple issues should never be asked in one question.
Yes, we became an African Kleptocracy a while ago, in fact if not in name.

Yes the flu has become a political football.

For the last 9 years I have gone to our local supermarket pharmacy (Central Valley, California.) Simply walked in, got the seasonal flu vaccine, walked out.

For the last two weeks I have inquired city wide and the seasonal flu vaccine is universally unavailable.

"Next week," or "next month" is the standard answer. Never happened before.

And these total idiots want to run our entire health system?

I get a seasonal flu shot every year. I can’t find one anywhere here in the Kanawha Valley in WV (Charleston area). I waited too late.

Seattle, Washington and Everett, Washington are reporting shortages of free vaccine. Lines of people being turned away with the media reporting all of it in great detail.

Of course this is to make the vaccine seem like “everybody wants to get it so I better get it too.” I don’t think so. The way the government is these days anything they want to give me must be bad. I have no faith in our government anymore. Unless you are in very weak condition you’ll just think it’s a bad cold. I had the flu several times in the 50’s and 60’s I’m still here.

“Pennsylvania continues to place orders with the federal government for the novel H1N1 flu vaccine for more than 4,000 pre-registered and certified providers in the state. However, due to the nationwide delay in the production of the vaccine, it is arriving in the state in very limited quantities. There are currently no public vaccination sites.” http://www.h1n1inpa.com/vaccines/h1n1-vaccine-locations-in-pa/ this is a govt site, which is directed from here: http://flu.gov/ (flu shot locator at top of page with map)

CDC releases every week info on antigenic testing of seasonal and swine. SO far, swine is mostly unchanged (out of 172 tested, they found one which drifted?): Antigenic Characterization:
CDC has antigenically characterized 1 seasonal A (H1N1) and 172 2009 influenza A (H1N1) viruses collected since September 1, 2009. Antigenic characterization of seasonal A (H3N2) and B viruses recently received by CDC is in progress.

One seasonal influenza A (H1N1) viruses was tested and is related to the influenza A (H1N1) component of the 2009-10 Northern Hemisphere influenza vaccine (A/Brisbane/59/2007).

171 (99.4%) of 172 2009 A (H1N1) viruses tested are related to the A/California/07/2009 (H1N1) reference virus selected by WHO as the 2009 H1N1 vaccine virus and one virus (0.6%) tested showed reduced titers with antisera produced against A/California/07/2009.” http://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/ (week 42) The change was discovered in week 38, Sept 26.

I've left links to Mike Adams/Natural News on this site and one time received a comment stating NN is all "lies and garbage," amongst other diatribe. When I left a link in the comments section on FR to Mercola (FreeRepublic will not accept links to Mercola as a MAIN post ... they cite copyright infringement, however, I've written Mercola and hopefully that can get straightened out with FR), I was told by one poster that the good doctor was "nothing but a quack." Since my own health has gone from sleeping 12 hours a night to sleeping 7 or 8 via the knowledge of a string of holistic physicians, including Dr. Mercola, it would be difficult at best for me to refer to him as anything but very helpful. Eat a piece of organic fruit and toss out the danish, go for a short walk, even longer if possible -- take vitamin D to ward off the flu -- these are all tips you get on either site you have cited. And while Mike Adams isn't quite as formal as Dr. Mercola, he does have a keen sense of humor in addition to being ridiculously healthy (not to mention handsome) and isn't laughter included in the very best medicine of all? Myself, I've got a couple of conventional-wisdom doctors and a couple of holistic ones. It would be great if they could work better together.

Have you seen Dr. Mercola's new site dedicated to information on swine flu alone?

And here is a link for y'all to Mike Adams' site, Natural News.

Another informational site: National Vaccine Information Center.

Lincoln County, Oregon yearly flu shot program aborted due to no shipment.

We were 2 hrs over the mountain range in another County and word was Safeway in one town just got a shipment and so we popped in there no appt. needed got our yearly and a coupon for 10% off our grocery bill for getting the yearly flu shot.

Flu so far this year has not been the usual high rate.
It has been (el nino) really wonderful warm/dry weather too considering we live in the stormy PNW coast.

So the flu virus of choice may not be able to grow as it would in cold/wet weather.

That is a great thing. We have had two miserable years of snow/cold almost year round.

Yep inSan Jose. Our pediatrican just got their first shipment.

They had to prioritize who gets the vaccine, and my daughter with a brain injury and seizures is on the high priority list. Her twin sister with asthma did not make the first cut. Their brother is even lower.

My daughter with a brain injury is getting her vaccination tomorrow.

Been reading Hajj Pilgrims are jumping the line and getting the vaccine right after Health Care Workers in some countries. Wouldn't that be kick if we found out Obama's Health and Human Services was doing that here.

When preexisting condition is in the picture, what are they talking about End stage Cystic Fibrosis or viral induced asthma?

As of today, only 100 doses total of the H1N1 vaccine have been received in the Buffalo, NY area (Erie County).
Considering that over 31 million doses have been released in the US, this seems a bit odd to me.
If you do the math, 31,000 doses is enough for about 10% of the US population. There are at least one million people in Erie County, so 100 doses is enough for 0.01% of the people here.
