McDonnell lead grows in home stretch of race

Posted on 11/01/2009 4:05:51 AM PST by republicangel

With Virginia's Election Day less than 48 hours away, large numbers of previously undecided voters say they're supporting Bob McDonnell for governor, giving the Republican a 12-percentage-point lead over Democrat Creigh Deeds, according to a poll.

McDonnell consistently has been ahead of Deeds in voter surveys and was supported by 53 percent of likely voters polled Wednesday and Thursday compared to 41 percent who favor Deeds, according to Mason-Dixon Polling and Research Inc. Six percent were undecided.

The phone survey of 625 registered voters who plan to vote Tuesday has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Support for Deeds was relatively unchanged from a Mason-Dixon poll taken Oct. 6-9. However, McDonnell's support has risen and the number of voters that remains undecided shrank by half.

President Barack Obama's speech at a rally for Deeds in Norfolk on Tuesday, which the campaign hoped would energize voters, didn't seem to have an effect, said Brad Coker, managing director of Mason-Dixon.

Good news but you all still need to show up and vote.

Virginians must get out and vote and hope and pray that ACORN does not defraud them.

A 12 point lead? That should be enough to overcome ballot box stuffing by the DEM/ACORN cartel, but you never know.

That is the one thing that I worry about, but if Obama comes here one more time- it will be a 20 point lead. The article tells how the undecideds are breaking to McDonnell since Obama came for a visit last week.

The bigger the margin of victory the greater the shock to the political establishment in DC.

We need Va to send a message Tuesday. The template for 2010 is being tested in VA.

The Democrat Deeds ran on a campaign of personal destruction of his foe. All the Democrat consultants are telling the Dems this is how they have to run in 2010 to win. Make it nasty, make it personal.

McDonnell ran on the issues. He needs to win by double digits. Voters need to send a clear message to the DC mob that they want serious candidates who are serious about issues, not foaming at the mouth Jame Carville clones.

Anything less then a massive McDonnell win will be ignored in DC as a fluke. Voters in VA have a chance to send a message to DC. Let us hope they seize their opportunity.

President Barack Obama's speech at a rally for Deeds in Norfolk on Tuesday, which the campaign hoped would energize voters, didn't seem to have an effect, said Brad Coker, managing director of Mason-Dixon.

The Deeds TV ads here in NoVA are now playing up the whole 'We Can Do It ... Again' theme. (Also, of course, mentioning that Deeds has been endorsed by the Washington Post.)

The setup for this is interesting, though. Most of the time linking a sitting President to an obviously losing race is NOT something the President's Party does. In this case, it strikes me that the burden of performance and obligation to win is being subtly shifted to the Dem grassroots. If Deeds loses it's going to be THEIR fault ... and turn to go under Obama's bus.

You are right, they(the Obama supporters) are subtly being set up as the reason Deeds is going to lose.

if they turn on the grass roots, the party regulars, it will be a mistake for them. but, dang.....for a pubbie it will be a sight for sore eyes.

Sorta hate to say this but reverse racism is a factor here imho. There’s little enthusiasm in the minorities to get out and vote for a white boy. Regardless, McDonnell is going to CRUSH Deeds. FYI absentee voting here in Tidewater has been extremely light compared to last year.

Hope you are right. Hope they crush Deeds but need the voters to show up. Hate to see us counting chickens before they are hatched.

Registered voters in this survey and a small sample at that. I think McDonnel will win it by more than 15%.

You are right, they(the Obama supporters) are subtly being set up as the reason Deeds is going to lose.

And they should be ashamed for not living up to what their Dear Leader expects of them.

The sad thing is that, after the "mmm ... mmm ... mmm ... Barack - Hussein - Obama" and other events saying that is a statement of fact rather than satire.

Plus, the leftist activists are unlikely to go all out for a moderate Democrat.

The "graveyard" vote will probably be light this year.

The best sign was that the White House has already thrown Deeds over the side and essentially anticipated defeat.

a ton of Deeds signs popped up around here (Prince William Co-Lake Ridge) sometime between Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. Kinda like spam emails, an overload of them in the middle grassy thing between lanes (yeah, I know there is a name for that area...I can’t remember...NEED COFFEE!). I’m hoping it was the work of one loser.

Don’t get complacent, Virginia

Lord obama wouldn’t be continuing to campaign there if the Tim Kaine’s DNC didn’t have some dirty tricks up its sleeve

Whenever ACORN crawls out from under it’s rock, you’re going to have a lot of dirty Deeds. And Dirty Deeds is on the ticket as the socialist/d-RAT standard-bearer.
