Republicans are confident they can score three strikes against Barack Obama in elections on Tuesday in what could be a springboard for a party revival.
Victories in the governors' races in Virginia and New Jersey and a contest for a vacant House of Representatives seat in New York would deliver a blow to Mr Obama almost exactly a year to the day since he won the presidency.
A rejection of Democrats in all three contests would be a major setback for Mr Obama because he has invested a large amount of time and personal political capital by campaigning extensively in the two governor elections.

"This idea that we're going suddenly to establish litmus tests, and all across the country we're going to purge the party of anybody who doesn't agree with us 100 per cent that guarantees Obama's re-election," Newt Gingrich, the former House Speaker and a possible 2012 presidential candidate, told Fox News.Sour grapes from Newt.

It is looking as if folks no longer are concerned about “Party.”
The Democrats have shot themselves in the foot with this character in charge. They know it as well.
Saw that lying POS David Plouffe on the TV today. Just about every word out of his mouth was a freaking lie.

I really don’t want a “party revival”. Republicans screwed us by failing to deliver when they had the power. I am much more interested in seeing the victory of the CONSERVATIVE in NY than I am in the victory of a Republican anywhere.

Harmer busting Garamendi in CA-10 would be bigger, IMHO, than Hoffman winning NY-23.

That's the difference between "Republican" and "conservative". Republicans want to be statesmen, they want to be liked, they want to be seen as agreeable. So they will compromise their principles and values in order to accomplish those self-centered goals. Conservatives have lines in the sand that they will not cross, and have the testicular fortitude to say so. They are also far less bothered by popularity contests and the adoration of the press and the chattering classes. They are more concerned with what is best for America.
I don't care what happens to "Republicans"...I want success for conservatives, whatever they may call themselves on the ballot.

A year after declaring that "change has come to America" in Chicago's Grant Park, Mr Obama now peppers his speeches with phrases like "change is hard", "change isn't supposed to be easy" and "change doesn't happen overnight".
UK news outlets are awesome in calling a spade a spade. You won't find this factoid in any US news report.
