GOP nominee endorses Democrat after stepping aside under pressure from right By Tony Romm - 11/01/09 03:28 PM ET The Republican in a New York House race that has become a symbol of the divisions within the GOP endorsed her former Democratic rival Sunday, a sharp snub to the third-party conservative who forced her out of the race.
Dede Scozzafava, who'd been chosen by local Republican leaders to try to hold the seat for the GOP, instead threw her support behind Democrat Bill Owens -- only a day after she unexpectedly backed out of the tough, three-way special election.

How’s that “Big Tent” workin’ out for us, Newt?
Reading the polls of the last few days it makes one wonder if the folks in NY-23 didn’t have a better handle on the candidates than Steele and Gingrich. And, it sure doesn’t say much for the “Republicans” that chose her. I think I’ll continue to send my donations to the individual races, and Not D.C.
SHOCKING!
Dede Scozzafava is definitely scuzz.
If Steele has any Brass he would file a lawsuit and get the wasted 900,000 back he dropped on this RINO! Watch his actions and we will know this mans soul. Is he with us or against us?
Time for open-season against the RINO’s, all of ‘em— Graham, Snowe, Bennet, Hatch, Collins, Crist, that RINO-in-waiting Hutchison and, of course, the uber-RINO of all RINOs, Juan the Jerk McCain! We need to hit them hard, get primary candidates against them, harass and humiliate them in public, heckle their speeches in Congress, hang them in effigy at the next Town Hall. No mercy!
This witch Dede Scozzafava in New York shows just how dangerous RINO’s are to our cause when they gain public prominence— they’re like parasites, eating away the Republican Party from within. Time to take them all down!!!
“Shes probably a Democrat mole. I suspect there are a lot of them in the Republican Party.”
And the Hallmark Card Hall of Fame award goes to none other than: NurdlyPeon for his remarks which come closest to our motto, “cared enough to say the very best”.
Congratulations, and Mahalo
“Wasn’t there a certain high ranking Republican who voted for Obama? I can’t remember his name right now: but it was certainly a black mark against him, generally speaking.?” (Should I have used a comma instead of a colon?)
I real traitor to the RNC!
Glad that Newt and Steele have taken notice!
Wow. Newt sure is a great judge of character.
Endorsing Owens is a snub to Hoffman?
I’d just say it’s all the proof needed
that she was NOT a republican candidate.
So long ms. scuzzyflava don’t let the
republican door hit you on the way out.
Be careful, conservatives are on the MARCH!
Not how it is none in this country.
Can not put Newt and Steele in the same category.
He looks like the twin of Elton John in that picture. Yuck!
“I wonder if Dedes decision to support Owens was made in part by this sow to sow further dissension between conservatives and the GOP establishment.”
This quote is definitely in the running for “QUOTE OF THE DAY”
Mahalo, and keep ‘em coming!!!
I wonder if Dedes decision to support Owens was made in part to sow further dissension between conservatives and the GOP establishment.
Would probably only be possible if she was directed to do so by democrat party officials because I dont believe she is that clever.
Possible. Another possibility is that this is just another example of dimwitted resentment and clumsy retaliation, like her imbecilic posturing in front of Hoffman’s campaign headquarters.
Hard to say. Very shortsighted though, whatever the motive. What party machine will trust her now?

Newt = Socialist
You make a valid point.
Thank you
;)
Trying to shift the blame, GOP screwed up.
Steele in trying to bring in Democrats to run as Republicans without consulting the party regulars should be fired. She was hand picked, she wasn’t selected though any process.
If the process was working correctly, Hoffman would have been the Republican Candidate in the first place. But Steele and their ilk wouldn’t have that, we had to be the progressive GOP now and ignore the majority of Americans.
